Yes welfare is there to help you, but Rebecca i feel the same way to i would feel wrong taking it even though i have been working for 10 years. I think there is a bad perception of the people that abuse the situation so normal tax payers who really need the help dont tend to take it because of that reason. The first time my husband and i went to centerlink to apply for the baby bonus was an awful experience we were treated like scum so def dont want to go back there....

yeah true I guess volunteering would make me feel a little better about the situation I'm in right now.

I get assistance also the way i look at it is. There is alot of ppl who abuse the system. I see them all the time. If you need the help well then get it that's why it is there.

think of it this way, yep you are on it for now... you need it to make it through... but try and get off when you can try not to be on it forever ( there ARE people who are) and while you are on it do something nice for others and when you are able to get off donate to a food bank, clothing closet or something similar that may help you feel better... pay it foward kind of thing

I'm on centrelink welfare and personally I hate it. Yes I've been paying tax since I was 16 so I guess I do deserve to see a little bit of it go back in my pocket, but I guess it just doesn't sit right with me knowing I haven't earned it. (I'm currently not employed and my boyfriend works part time and studies fulltime). As soon as my boyfriend has his career sorted out we're off it :)

if you can, don't tell your prospective employers your prego until after your hired.

hi i'm not on this but i used to be before i got with my current partner .In new zealand you get heaps of help form welfare .Even though my partner earns $59000 a year we have 3 children and can struggle from time to time but welfare will still help us out with food even though he is on a good wage .

Im on welfare too. Since my boyfriend is a full time student, and I got less than a two week paycheck from disability, we are broke.lol. I don't mind it. It actually helps out a lot. My boyfriend is doing Welfare to Work. It is a program where the gov't helps to pay for gas and stuff so that he can go to school if he goes to school for an "in demand" job. It's pretty cool. My job is a pretty good one, but pays shitty. In the county I live in, in order for a two parent household with an infant to make ends meet, both have to make at least $13.65 US dollars an hour. I am the only one working and only make $10 an hour. No wonder we were always broke!
