It totally depends!! Every child is different my pediatrician says 4 months rice cereal, 6 months start baby food. Well have you ever encountered a hungry child they will change your mind! My 1 month old is eating cereal now. What do you do when a newborn screams and cries every 30 minutes to an hour starving?? Feed them, so b4 long she will need more I expect her to start baby food in another month or so. My oldest daughter was the same way but she had the most horrible reflux, no milk stayed down, I mean none. I started her on juice and baby food which stayed down at 6 weeks. They are both happy healthy intelligent children. As my father always told me follow your mother's intuition, you have it and it will not let you down, you are the mother you do what you think is best.

My pediatrician recommended 6 months based on the latest studies from the world health organization. I mentioned that my little one seemed interested in our food she said well just try rice cereal before then. I ended up starting my baby on solids at about 5 months because of her interest just rice cereal at first but other foods soon after when she grabbed a slice of peach from her Daddy and was really upset about not getting to eat it so I mashed some up for her. So I guess 6 months is sort of an average because every kid is different. My Mom's advice seems very practical here which was simply follow your babies interests and don't try to make them eat or not eat solid food. One of my younger brothers eat hardly any solid food until he was 9 months old just wasn't very interested.

You should start at 6 months, that's including baby cereal. If you give it to them before the age of 6 months it is linked to obesity, diabetes etc. I started giving my son baby cereal and bananas, and progressed from there!!
