20 week scan and in pain! :(

Hi ladies, i'm 20 weeks and 4 days and have just had my 20 week scan today, everythings good with my baby girl. However, for about a week now i've been getting some aching pains on the left hand side of my bump. I put it down to a few reasons, one being it's the side i sleep on, the second being i've got a 13 month old boy who i have to pick up and get in and out of the car etc and thirdly just normal aches and pains of pregnancy, (my bump has 'popped out' in the last couple of days. But today when i had my scan the sonographer pressed quite firmly to get a view of babys head and something in my stomach felt like it popped and I was in agony for about 2 or 3 minutes. (The sonographer said she hadn't done anything she shouldn't have), it felt like a knot in my back being pushed out when you go for a massage. I'm still quite tender now and i don't know what caused it. Has anybody else had this? I didn't get it with Kody and i didn't get any of the pain i have mentioned before with him either. Is it just part of a second pregnancy, as i know things are supposed to be a lot more different in subsequent pregnancies after your first? I'm having lots of kicks from baby girl so i know she's ok it's just worried me a little bit. Any advice? Thanks, Maria x

I had similar pains but on my right side the pain got so bad I ended up in hospital twice because the thought it was my appendix but whilst I was in there the pain would slow down and they didn't know what was causing it that was at 16 weeks at 18 weeks I went to my gp as the pain was still coming and going he told me that I had streched pelvic muscles I'm now 23 weeks and it still comes every now and then but I'm in the process of see a phyisio to help strengthen them up as I really want to have natural birth this time as I had a c-section with my son. I hope the pain doesn't come back, I've been told mine will get worse as I get bigger :/

I am 23 weeks along and for a week or so when I was around 14 weeks I was having this nagging tender spot a few inches from my belly button. It felt like I had something stuck between my ribs, and it also hurt a lot when I would make sudden moves or bend over. My doc said that it was stretching ligaments (I had these with my first, but never had this feeling!). Very weird, this pregnancy stuff, lol.

I have been having some pains in my tummy too, so I told my doctor. She said that it is probably just the ligaments and tendons stretching out again to hold up the uterus. I don't know if it is the same thing you are going through, but that is my best guess. I would make sure you tell your doctor at your next visit.

Thanks for replying! It did cross my mind that it could have been round ligaments but i don't really know what they are! And i too have been thinking i was getting braxton hicks for the last couple of weeks! Until my mum in law said it was far too early to get them! After it 'popped' on the scan i've been fine ever since... so hopefully she got rid of whatever it was! Good luck to you too! :)

I think it could be round ligaments because I was having the same pains and told my dr I thought I was having some braxton hicks and he said probably ligaments because it wasn't contractions. I have never had this pain before either and this is my 5th pregnancy. I hope the pain goes away and doesn't come back. Good luck!
