Just wondering how your August 2011 babies are eating and sleeping?

My daughter will ONLY eat up to 4 ounces of formula every 5 times during the day and is still up 2 to 3 times a night to eat. It's getting very frustrating!

My 5 month old August 2011 baby, sleeps well through the night, but she has since she was about 6 weeks old, were lucky on that one......She is a big girl, weighs almost 18 pounds and is 25.5 inches long. :) She eats cereal twice a day, morning and night (2 tables spoons each time) and about 3 different 1st stage foods (fruits and veggies) she prefers veggies :) Oh and of course still formula, I have a hard time keeping track of that, but about 8 ounces every 4-5 hours I think? Great eater!!! She doesn't look over weight, her height evens her out! :) I reccomend feeding her as much as you can during the day so she won't wake at night and try cereal at night if you haven't already!!!

My son was doing excellent for the longest time, ate a bunch, slept all night, etc.... Now he's regressed and is worse than ever!!

He's teething now and it's a nightmare. The last 3 days he refuses to take a bottle, won't sleep, just fusses and chews on everything. I was worried sick about him not wanting to eat for days and called his peditrician and a few others. They all said the same old line, "if they're hungry, they'll eat." I think that's absurd!! They are babies, they just know they're mouth hurts too bad to have a bottle shoved in it.... I finally became so desperate to make sure he eats, that I wait until he falls asleep, then I slide the bottle in his mouth. He guzzles it down as if he's starving.

Hang in there, at least your baby is still willing eating!! Every Mom I've talked to has said the 5-8 months are the worse, and every baby goes through not wanting to feed, sleep, etc.... Good Luck!!!!

My son is 8 months old and has 4 to 5 bottles of 6 oz. each a day. For breakfast he eats 3 tblspns of rice cereal mixed with a jar of fruit. For lunch he eats another 3 tblspns of rice cereal and a jar of veggies mixed in. For dinner he eats a jar of some kind of meat(chicken, turkey, ham). And in between he eats puffs, mum mums, or bananas.
He usually wakes up at 7:00 AM and goes to sleep around 9:00. Hope this helps

I have twin boys - one eats cereals and formula like a champ and sleeps all night. The other one gags on his food and spits up his bottle constantly and is up several times in the night to snack. Both boys are in their healthy weight range and ate growing and developing at a good rate! I think each baby is different and unfortunately as the Mom we just have to deal with it! Know you are not alone in your frustration and one day this will be a badge of honour that you survived!

Maybe try changing it by 15mins at a time? I've heard that works. the amount of food seems ok, there is still plenty of milk which is important.

Hi Liz, I am not sure how much a container of Gerber is (I am assuming it is a brand of bought babyfood?) Is there a reason you have her going to bed and waking so late? I would be concerned that her body is going to get used to food very late at night which may be difficult to change when she starts to need an earlier bedtime.

My daughter is waking up once or twice during the night. Eating usually around 2 am and up again around 5am or 6 after being put to bed around 9 pm. She is eating solids twice a day but prefers to be breastfed. Seems to be ovine backwards because she was sleeping longer through night before food. But not too bad...she is the best sleeper out of the three.

Hang in there...it gets better...

My little guy is a piggy, HA! He eats about 6-7 oz every 3-4 hours and he eats solids twice per day. He has his last bottle about 7:30p.m. and sleeps through the night, gets up anywhere from 6-7a.m. I'm waiting for the teething to start, everytime my daughter cut teeth, it was two weeks of crying out in her sleep....

I feel for you! My daughter eats about the same as yours! She actually gets up about 3-4 times a night to eat and stirs several times too, I have to pick her up and soothe her back to sleep (although she doesn't properly wake up then, just fusses in her sleep). It gets very frustrating =/ I feel like I spend more time sitting at the edge of the bed rather than laying in it! I do breastfeed, and give her follow-on milk in emergencies. She has the occasional solid as well. I have noticed they do a follow-on milk for "hungrier" babies. I find she still drinks the same amount in ounces, but it holds her off a bit longer. I have heard that it will get better, and I long for that day - I'm like a zombie most of the time! I wish the best for you! I have been struggling lately with lack of sleep, and she doesn't take that good of naps in the day either. Very short - like 15-20 minute cat naps! I will let you know if I find and tweaks to help! You are not alone!

i was having the same problem with my son. he was on alimentum for acid reflux and would eat 3 to 4 ounces every 2 hours. When we made the switch to a different formula he started taking 6-8 ounce bottles. As for the feeding at night, my son does that as well!

Madeleine turned 6 months this week, she has a loose routine that goes something like this

6ish wake, playtime with Daddy

7ish bf followed by breakfast (cereal with fruit mixed with breastmilk)

nap around 8am for 1.5-2hrs

11ish bf then lunch - finger foods, she doesn't eat much but she loves to try! Today she had a pretty good go and some green beans and carrots

12ish 40min nap

2.30 bf

3ish 40min nap

4.30 dinner - avocado or veggies, fruit for dessert

6ish bath

6.30 bf then story

7pm bed

She still has 1 or sometimes 2 feeds overnight depending on how the day went. She is full crawling as a month ago, sitting herself up and this week started pulling up on furniture. I am sure the energy she uses is why she eats so much and still at night despite being only 15lbs! I am working on extending her middle nap but not having much luck.

My daughter also only eats up to 4 ounces of breastmilk sometimes 4.5 at most every 2-3 hours. She's usually in bed by 8:30pm. I top her off at 7:30 and 8:30pm, totaling 7-8 ozs. She STILL wakes up at least 3 times, sometimes 4x's since this past month. Sleep regression, possibly teething, or the inability to self-soothe can get super frustrating. But once my DH and I stick the paci back in, she goes back to sleep instantly...she gets up almost exactly at 5:30-6am to talk/eat a little, then goes back to sleep. Talk about exhausting!

We started weaning my DD on Saturday, & she's loving it!!!

We're doing baby led weaning, and so far she has had avocado, cucumber, apple, sweet potato, toast, rice cakes & broccoli!!

I'm still BF, and I feed as & when little lady wants food day & night!! A good night is 3 feeds a night!!!

My doctor said / I read that once they are 6months, they really can go the whole night without eating (provided they are a healthy normal weight baby). I'm still bf'ing mine once at night but if he wakes any other time I just pat him back to sleep. It took a couple nights for him to understand, but we're both getting a lot better sleep at night now!

The freezer so he can suck on and that way his hands are not cold like when he holds a teething ring. Hang in there it will get better I am on number two and it does get better

Hi, My son was born on the 22nd of august. he's breastfed so I'm not sure how much he's eating... but yes, we're still getting up 2-3 times a night to eat. It's habit now. He's doing it because it helps him sleep. I know he can go from 10pm-6am without eating, and he was for awhile, but then he started getting up at 1, then at 3 or 4... ugh.

I'm trying to get him to sleep without the swaddle now... that's even more irritating. lol

My son is doing better he will go down around 8 I feed him around 7:30 about 6oz, he usally sleeps until about 6 but a couple days a week he will wake up around 12 and want about 4 oz. he used to wake up a couple times but I would just go in sooth him back to sleep and I think that helped him realize that he wasn't hungry and now he only wakes up once and if that.

My little guy eats 8 oz every 8 hours and in between that approx every 4 hours he either gets food (rice cereal and/or veggies) or 4 oz of milk. His sleeping through the night has been getting better. He has been sick so that made it hard for all of us to sleep. He gets up 2 times in the night, the first time I just have to let him fuss and cry for about 10 minutes but sometimes I give him a little water and a pacifier then he gets back to sleep the 2nd waking is to eat (which is about 8 oz).

My son who is now 3 (4 in March) didn't sleep through the night until he was about 2 years old and even now he still wakes up and comes into my room at night. Good luck with your little one.

My dota is teething and lately this has caused her to wake up four times a night. I suspect she doesn't get full feeds since she keeps soothing her gums in between feeding yet she is so drowsy at the same time. She then ends up sleeping again and waking up very quickly. Uuhhh!

I end sleeping with her yet am training her to sleep in her own bed.... its stretching

i've been fortunate... my little guy eats like crazy during the day (6-ish ounces every 2 1/2- 3 hours, a combo of bottle-feeding and straight from the tap) from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm and then sleeps through the night (with one wake-up call, from me, at 5:30 am)! :) but my daughter was not a great sleeper, so it's a balance for me. :) my little guy does sometimes wake up before his am feeding, but it's rare. i just tried to feed him more frequently during the day while he was awake so he wouldn't need to eat at night... he's been "sleeping through the night" since 7 weeks, but i think i just got lucky with him.

My twins are doing really well. The drink 5-7 oz every 3 hours during the day. They get rice cereal at breakfast (7 am) with some fruit and rice cereal with some veggies at dinner (6 pm). They then top off with milk at 7:30 pm and go to bed until 5 am (daughters wake up time) and 6 am (sons wake up time). During the day they will each have one good long nap (about 2 - 2 1/2 hours) in the morning and then a couple of 15 - 20 minute naps in the afternoon.

My son still eats like a champion. He eats 6oz about 4 to 5 times I day. He always seems to change this daily, I can never really gauge it. We used to put rice cereal in his bottles to slow him down until the dr. told us not to because he needs to work on chewing and solid foods. We started to incorporate solids (rice cereal, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, apples) and he seems to want the entire tub of food plus his 6oz bottle. With sleeping, my son rarely, if ever sleeps during the day however that works to my advantage because I can put him to sleep around 8pm and he's asleep all night...at least until 5:30 am :)

I'm guessing I have it pretty easy. I am still nursing about ever 3-5 hours. He does get formula on nights when I work usually 4-5 oz and also doing rice cereal at night mixed with 4 oz of formula or breastmilk. For about a 2 week period he was getting up at either 1 am or 4 am but other that that he has been sleeping through the night almost since we have been home. Normally he sleeps anywhere from 10 to 12 hours straight at night.
