My daughter is six weeks old and she always seems like she's hungry, but I know she's eating too much because she spits up a ton and often seems like she has a tummy ach. Yet, everytime I try to take her bottle away she gets angry with me and acts like she's still hungry. Wha'ts going on with her? Anyone else having this problem? Any advice?

I've had a similar situation wiht my son who is now 11 weeks. My ped said to try a pacifier as a lot of docs now recommend it since it's believed that it may reduce SIDS. He'll take it when he really does just want to suck and when he really is hungry, no matter how hard I try he'll refuse it. The first few times I tried it I did it when I knew he was full and I had to try for at least 5-10 minutes, before I knew it though he took it. He won't always take it, but I'll always try it first, when I know he's full before getting him another bottle.

Our ped said that we shouldn't be too concerned with over feeding and that spitting up is okay. She said once he gets moble he'll trim down and once we start solids it will be about making healthy choices to keep him at a healthy weight.

I had the same problem wen my daughter was only a few weeks so first I had to make sure the bottle was rite for her cause milk was always coming out then I came to the conclusion that she just likes the suck on something so I got her a binky I kno its the worst trying. To take them back but I had to give her something after that she went to sleep

6 weeks old is about when the first growth spurt is supposed to happen, so that could be the cause of her wanting to eat all the time. Personally I would never put cereal in their bottle - from what I've heard it's a choking hazard and their digestive systems aren't ready to handle it. Both of my daughters spit up a lot, but it doesn't seem to mean they are full. My older daughter stopped spitting up once she started crawling. Does she burp well? She might seem to have a tummy ache if she's gassy. I breastfeed, so I don't know much about formula.....but I know there are different bottles and formulas that are supposed to help with gassy babies.

I'm having the same problems with my 5 week old, except my child screams at night seeming to be hungry. I did call my doctor today and they said to put a little oatmeal in her evening bottle. I woud consult your doctor first, but if this helps both me and my husband can sleep a little better at night.

my daughter was born aug 2... and she has yet to spit up but stays hungry... i know its not advisable but i put a half a scoop of cereal in a 6 oz bottle of formula and it usually helps her out for about 2 and a half hours. if you do that make sure to get oatmeal and not rice as rice can sometimes back them up. my son was on cereal before he hit a month old because if we didnt he was eating almost 6 oz every hour and there was no way that was good for me or his tummy

My son had the same problem. However, he wasn't actually eating a lot, and still spitting up. We found out he has reflux which was causing the spit up. He's on medication for that and after it kicked in he hasn't spit up at all and seems to be more satisfied between eating (and is eating more) I would just ask the pediatrician about whats going on and see if they have any pointers as well.

As Beth pointed out, try a pacifier if you haven't already. That may help quite a bit.

I know some parents are against it, but have you tried a pacifier? Some times when my son acts like that, he really is just interested in the sucking motion more than the food. He needs to be soothed. Maybe your daughter is the same way. If you know she is full because she is spitting up, I wouldn't keep feeding her. You could always use the nipple from the bottle too. If you've fed her, changed her, and she's not tired. She just wants a little tender care :)
