What does kicking feel like?

I have heard most people describe it as butterflies, flutters, or gas, but I have felt nothing of the sort. I am 22 weeks pregnant and for a good 4 weeks, the only thing that I have felt is what I can only describe as a muscle spasm in my lower abdomen. I feel it sporadically throughout the day. It is typically on my left side, but I have felt it several times in the middle, and on my right side once or twice. I don't know if this is kicking or just my body. My doctor seemed surprised when I told him that I didn't know if I had felt our baby move yet. This is my first baby.

When I first felt my baby, it was like pressure in a certain area that lasted a second or two and then went away. I would feel that periodically for about two to five minutes and then it would stop. When it got stronger it was more like muscle spasms.
It gets stronger. It sounds to me like you are feeling the early stages of kicking. Give it a few weeks, there will be no doubt that your baby is kicking.

With my 1st I didn't know I was feeling the baby until the doc did an ultra sound and I saw it moving and felt it :) I think it could also feel like a muscle spazm or a "tickle belly" (When you go over a hill in a car just right and you feel that flutter)

I am 23 weeks with baby #2 and with neither of my pregnancies have I considered it to be the "butterfly" feeling that many people describe it as. The first feelings of movement, to me, were just how you are describing it. More like a jerky-feeling. When I was pregnant with my first, I didn't really feel him until I was 23 weeks.
Feeling the movement also depends on if you're always moving around & if you catch a quiet time when the baby is being active. If you're on the go a lot, then you will not feel the movement as much in the earlier weeks...Don't worry, you'll be feeling it soon! :)

I didn't know with my first either, but that is definitely what you are feeling. It is a little hard to tell sometimes, but I know when it is the baby. I'm at 20 weeks, so I don't feel it too much, but I do sometimes, lol.

This is also my first pregnancy, I'm 22 weeks now but I didn't start feeling anything until about a week and a half ago and I feel the same thing, sporadic muscle spasms pretty low down. Some are very light but others have made me jump. Sounds like your baby to me!! :)

I think it's different for everyone, even every pregnancy... this is my second and it feels completely different to my first! I didn't feel any kind of movement with Kody until about 24 weeks, and this time i've been feeling it from 18 weeks so it all differs! Mine are definate kicks this time, for the first few days it was like popcorn that you put in the microwave to cook popping out, thats the best way i could describe it! It felt really wierd - i never had any of that with my first! Now it feels like nudges and you can see my belly move when she kicks or punches out.. I wouldn't worry about it too much hun, you'll be feeling something anytime now. I don't mean to sound rude but apparantely it's harder to feel if you carry a bit of extra weight (i hope i don't offend) :( All i can say is, you'll definately know when little one is kicking! As long as you can hear the babys heartbeat at your midwife appointments then your fine :) Hope you feel something soon! Maria x
