How young were your kids when you introduced them to the family pets?

My house is a zoo, and seems to be a growing one. Not that there's much else of an option. I'm an avid animal lover and try to rescue everything. I'm dating a biology major that's debating a MA program or Vet school for Therio. My son loves everything that moves on four legs or two. My dad rescued a baby box turtle from the truck shop he works at and brought it home to my son. So between my son, my boyfriend, and me, we have 4 cats, a Chinese Water Dragon, a box turtle, an African Albino Frog (16yrs old and counting.....I think it's immortal) and my son and I have a Blue Healer/ Alaskan Husky/ American Bulldog mix, and my boyfriend has a mutt at his parent's house. We are also thinking of adding a snake...that being said my son was 3 days old when he met the youngest cat who is only 2 weeks older than him. He soon met the rest of the furries we have. How about you guys? When did your bits get to meet the non-human family members?

Our only pet we had when we brought our son home was a ferret, he met it right away but was sleeping. Currently we only have a ferret ( diffrent one our previous one had gotten hurt badly when we let it out to play one day and after months of rehabilitation it fully recovered but we couldn't move with it so we gave it away) and an iguana. My daughter, who is 1, loves the ferret. She goes and picks it up and carries it around like a kid would a cat. She is surprisingly gentle with it considering we just got it two months ago and at first she was so terrified my husband had to carry her when it ran about. The kids and it are best friends, and the iguana hates everyone. I guess you could consider the evil mice as unwanted pets. I jsut poisoned them, they are so nasty, ferret is way way cleaner.

I'm just as bad about adopting the disabled pets. And I seem to end up with the retards anyways. My boyfriend's Chinese Water Dragon has a bum back leg due to some one cleaning out his cage when he was a baby. They set a cage decoration on his leg, then didn't take him to the vet for a week. All the vet could do was splint the leg to his tail. The youngest cat we have was a rescue since her mom was killed by the pack of dogs our neighbor refuses to control, 2 of the cats just showed up at my house. No clue where they came from.

LOL @ the immortal frog!  Classic!  I'm also happy to see someone else who has a bigger zoo than I have!  I was always afraid that I had one too many, but I have no worries now!  Thanks!  When we brought my son home from the hospital, we already had 3 dogs and 1 cat.  We introduced them right away.  We are now down one dog, but up 2 cats.  My son has had a beta fish on and off, but after the 3rd one, that was it!  He loves his furry siblings and they love him as one of their own.  One of our dogs is a pit, one is a chihuahua mix, and then, of course, the 3 cats.  I'm a sucker for pets with disabilities, so the pit is a bit retarded (bit by a rattler when he was a pup), one cat is deaf, and one is toothless.  I have a hard time resisting the pull to adopt the disabled ones!  I'm surprised my husband even lets me in the pet stores anymore!  Although, I have to admit, he's a sucker for them as well!

my son was introduced to our dog Harley (american shepard/ pitbull/ lab) the day he came home from the hospital. As soon as my mother in law brought him back from her house that day we let them met.
