Hi Mums!
After reading Gill Rapleys book, I have been following baby-led-weaning with my LO since 6 months- now 8 months old. She is formula fed. I was wondering if any other mums are following this weaning process and how you are finding your babys ratio of food and also milk intake from about 71/2- 8 months onwards. She is not taking in huge amounts of food yet, but I can see from her nappies that she is getting some in.
Guess I am just having a wobbly and worrying a bit that she may not make the transition from food to milk on her own by the the time she is a year. (I know up to a year is just considered experimental for them though.)
Also, did anyone at any point start to offer smaller amounts of milk if bubs is hungry just to curb the hunger, and then offer food afterwards? She still has her bottle first (for hunger), then about 30 min later I will offer her food to try. She is having 5-6 bottles in a 24 hr period approx 30-32floz- with 1-2 being at night time (12:30am then 6am)
Any advice and guidance would be really appreciated- first time mum!
Thanx everyone!

darn, i replied to this but it disappeared!

i havent heard of the book but your situation has some similar things to what i am doing so you might be able to glean something from below:
my 8mth old started solids before 6 mths (just a bit of baby rice and then some mouli'd pumpkin but always breastfed first), and gradually increased as she was a hungry little munchkin, now at 8mths she has 3 meals a day and I have just stopped BF'ing as she lost interest during the day and only BF overnight so she is fully on formula now.
anyway my experience is that some days she will want more milk than food, and other days she gobbles up the food, i think it is all a culmination of taste, teething, tiredness that will result in how hungry she is and what she wants.i have just started giving her milk after food, and offering her water or rice crackers in between when i usually would have BF, I think you could absolutely offer her small amts of milk if she is hungry, it depends on what she wants, my girl is fascinated with the rice crackers and loves to have them which is why i give them, they are a good source of iron and she is a happy wee bubba who is extremely healthy and well 'covered' lol, so i could probably do either
its so hard to figure out how much, when and what to give your baby, but I think as long as they are happy and healthy then you don’t have to worry, my wee ‘un isn’t sleeping so great at night anymore so I am experimenting with the milk amounts as im pretty sure she isn’t getting enough, or it could just be her age adjustment…. So hard to figure out eh
she went from sleeping 12 hrs to waking at 10pm, 2am and 5am
she has at least 600mls a day (that roughly 30oz)
i think the best advice i was given when staring solid was that some days they just dont want it, and dont let it get to you

i hope this has given you something to mull over and if you have any advice for this first time mum i am all ears!!
