Hope u don't mind me jumping in and asking this...

Mega problems picking baby boy names going on here! We already have a little girl who is four, her name is Amber May. Our surname is Petley. which means any names beginning with P are out, or ending 'ley' (such as Ashley) We'd like to avoid repeating first initials already in the household, which are A, L and G (I had a nightmare when I lived at home with my parents and my dad and I had the same initials and kept opening each others post!) and would like something that will go with Amber... we also need a middle name.

We've exhausted all the baby name books within our reach, and parents names as inspiration (quite old fashioned names, don't suit me and my husband!). Baby name sites just add to the problem as I don't know where to begin and before I know it I've spent 3 hours 'just looking'! I like names that are rare, but not too weird (no suggestions of 'Moon Unit' or 'Heavenly Babe' will be taken seriously!)! Any help greatly appreciated! Baby not due til mid March but I kind of get the feeling this name thing could go on for a long time... Amber was named by 22 weeks pregnant, but I am already 25 weeks with this one and have absolutely no idea what he's gonna be called!

Thanks!
Lou

We named our son Henry Arthur first name after his paternal great grandfather and middle name after his paternal grandfather....we were going to add my husbands name in there too but then his initials would have been HASH (husbands name is Stephen and our last name is Hintz) so needless to say the name Stephen was not added :) I prefer traditional names and I think that modern, even made up names are stupid....what's cute when the kid is 4 is not going to be cute when they are 24...keep that in mind

My boys are Cian (Key-an) Curtis, Cameron Kenneth, and the next will be Kelton Alan. I also like Cormac. All of my middle names are from family members.

I agree that looking through your family tree is a good idea. We've names both our daughter's after loved ones. The oldest is Hannah Jewels ( named after my father Julius and goes by Jewels), and the baby is Elizabeth Mae (named after husband's grandmother Bessie Mae and goes by Izzie) To me it's the best of both worlds a tradional name if they choose to use when they get older and a more cute name for now. ( By the way when if we do have another it will be named after my husband Garland Lamar....Benjamin Garland (Ben) for a boy and Sarah Lamara (Mara) for a girl)

Agreed with Amelia, and her post brings up a good point - Why not look back through your family trees and see if you catch something you really like?
