My boyfriend and I are taking our 7 month old on a 16 hour car ride to SD to visit his parents. I have read up a little bit about traveling with an infant, but nothing on a long car ride. Does anyone have any advice on how to make this a stress-free ride? Any tips? This is our first child and our first trip in the car over 2 hours. Any help would be amazing!! Thank you!!

I went for about a 12 hour ride with my son when he was 5 months. We broke it up over 2 days and stopped a few times each day. I was able to sit in the back for some of it to entertain him. The worst part was sitting in the Loop traffic in DC and needing to nurse him. Anybody who has been in that traffic knows that you can't just get off the next exit - each exit takes 45 minutes to get to even if they're 1/2 a mile apart. Of course I didn't take him out of his carseat so I stooped over him. I had blankets over every inch of us. I started pumping more after that, lol.

Laura is right about the diaper changes. Bring lots of wipes.

I admire you. I haven't done it myself but i remember when i was young my parents made sure we stopped often and had toys and books to occupy us. The biggest thing i can say is don't expect places (service stations and the like) to have changing facilities, so be prepared to change bubs on the backseat of the car or in it's pram. Oh and the other with a little one stop and take her for a little walk in the pram give her a change of scenery if you can. It will mean she will get less grissly.
