11 week old diagnosed with acid reflux, and prescribed zantac, but iam too afraid to give it. He isnt spitting up , all he does is coughs when burping and i can hear some regurgitation after meals, he sometimes gets very cranky after a meal. Doctor says to burp in between ounces, but when i take the bottle out he screams. Oh and he also has hiccups alot.

I had two preemies with reflux and you describe it perfectly....give you baby the meds it is going to help everything and make sure you burp after every ounce...he sounds hungry. babies with reflux usually are because they can't fill up like other babies...my son had to have a Nissenfundoplycation for his and my daughter won't eat well if she isn't on meds. Your doc is not a quack...that is standard for treating reflux and Zantac is an awesome drug...don't be affraid to help your baby....he needs it.

My son was only 4 weeks old when he was diagnosed with acid reflux, they gave him zantac and I tell you what it helped him out alot dont be afraid to give it. He wont be cranky after meals and the coughing when burping will go away and it will prevent him from having to have surgery by the time he is 2. Also you want to burp in between oz for a while until he gets used to the medicine. Let him scream for that bottle would you rather him be upset because he's hungry and cant wait or hurting because of his reflux

my son is 5 weeks and he did the same thing but he also vomited most his bottle afterward also. I found it was because he ate too much at one time, even though he wanted to eat it all didn't mean his tummy could handle it all. so I decreased the amount he got at one time and feed more often. He eats 4 1/2 oz every 4 hours now and does really well. no more crying after he eats, and the hiccups and vomiting decreased dramatically. oh and yes stop him about every 2 oz and burp him. if i let him he'll eat 5 oz but then the troubles start right back up. so 4 1/2 it is. hope that helps.

My son had a hard time for a little while I stoped burping him and started giving him his gass drops after his bottle instead of before or in it. It goes in and pops all of the bubbles in his little tummy without making him spit up. When I first asked his daycare providers to do this they fought me on it. But one of them tried it and it worked. ( I knew it worked because we did it at home but you know daycare providers they know so much more than you do) But it really realy! really! helped my son alot. Every time I would burp my son his spit up so much of his milk and I was told when you burp your baby the milk sits ontop of the bubles so when you burp them the bubles come up and bring the milk with it. I've only had the one son so I can't say I've seen it work on other kids because people look at me like I'm nuts when I explain and since burping is has been done for so long most parents wont try this way :) But this way your not having to take his bottle away so much either. I swear to you this really worked so well on my son :)

i had this problem with both of my kids and was afraid to give them medication... and older mother next door suggested breaking up a starlight mint and disolving in warm water the mind will help with stomache acids and wont harm them like most medications will..... let me know if this helps
