I have a 5 year old in Kindergarden and he is not happy. He doesn't want to be there and I don't want him to be there. He is being bullied and now so am I. I want to take him out as soon as possible but I don't know how.

If you live in the US, kindergarten is not mandatory and bullying is illegal. The problem that I've found is that schools seem to ignore bullying at all costs so they don't have to deal with it. I've even seen a teacher physically turn her back on an entire school yard (except for the 15 feet or so between her and a wall) because "it wasn't in the teachers' contracts to watch the playground." Made me feel safe with the bullying and being in a town with either the highest or one of the highest pedophile populations in the state. Is school choice an option? Just be aware that school choice and private schools usually require you to do all the driving and private obviously costs money. If you want to tough it out - stick up for yourself and your son. Get to know the school policies and document absolutely everything. Good luck. Sorry his first year had to be so bad.

Hi Michelle, sorry to hear of this. Have you spoken to the principal/teacher about your concerns? Changing schools, homeschooling (I do this) or private school are some other choices I can think of. You'll probably need to speak with the principal and teacher about your concerns and have a plan in place before you take your child out of public school if this is what you want. I hope it works out.
