My daughter (3 yrs) started preschool this year. Last week they did the first fire drill with her class. The next day they had a fireman come speak to the class. My daughter had to be picked up before the fireman even came. She arrived at school and started screaming, which continued for almost 30 mins. until the teacher called me to come get her. She is fearful of the fire drills and the teacher has suggested that she not participate in the drills. I want her to be empowered to know what to do in the case of an emergency, but she is really terrified. I have begun checking out books from the library for her about firemen and fire safety in the hopes of exposing her to these topics in a non-threatening way. I really want her to know what to do. If we have a fire at home or at school, i want her to know that the firemen are not scary. Any other suggestions?
