High school band ... what a trip!

My dearest daughter is not only in a Concert Band class but also in the school's Marching Band. I never imagined how cool it would be to see & hear a marching band in action ... It is COOL! There is something about 145 kids in uniform marching, dancing & playing music that is just COOL! Then when they take Division 1 Top Honor in the State Band Competition for our District that is even COOLER! Ma, o man is it a time commitment or the kids & parents alike though!

Wow that is a lot. My daughter is attending a very small high school right now. The band is about 150 members or so, they only have marching and concert. They have tutoring lessons during class (cost extra but they give the kids time so it works out better). She is moving to a larger high school next semester not sure how band will look from there. Lots to do that if for sure. Well good luck.

My daughter's marching band has also concluded for the year with their last activity on Dec. 6th, our town's Christmas Parade. My daughter's band however had the majority of thier practices at 6:20 am. This is because for this school district Marching Band is a class and the students get a full credit for participating. However, my dearest daughter decided that extracuricular band just can't be over so she joined the Pep Band which plays at the Basketball Games and is signed up for the State Solo & Ensemble competition in Feb. We are also contemplating private lessons after the start of the New Year & there is a local college that has a community based Band program that is acutally run by my daughter's school's previous Band Director. We are thinking about that for next school year. My daughter is by choice, a busy, busy bando!

I agree it is very cool to see although our band is a lot smaller. I also agree very time consuming (I am glad that marching band requirements are coming to a end); although they practice it is not every evening.
