I NEVER thought this would happen: I have been a step for 11 years, since the girls were 14 and 9, and bio-mom lives overseas, so we haven't had to deal with a lot of issues, especially as the girls have gotten older. But in those early days, boy was there some animosity and nasty talk both ways....
My oldest got married last week, and my daughter did right by both bio-mom and me, honoring both of us. The real surprising moment was right after the ceremony, when I went to go back down the aisle with bio-mom, and she hugged me and thanked me for everything I did for Emily over the years that brought her to this moment. I surprised even myself for hugging her back and thanking her for sharing her daughter with me.
It can happen- just be open for it.....
