What do you love about being a military mom?
I love the adventures. I love the constant changes. I love not really knowing what is going to happen, even though sometimes it drives me crazy! I love the order. I love the military family. I think most of all, I love feeling like I am a part of something great, something amazing, and possibly be a part of making history.
What advice would you give to moms on how to build a new support circle after a move?
Don't wait for people to come to you to make friends. Go out and get them! Be nice to everyone, and don't gossip about others. Just be yourself, be positive and be the kind of friend you want in others. Then your support circle will start building itself.
What's a tip for helping kids cope with a parent's absence?
My kids LOVE routine. When Daddy leaves, familiarity is very important to them. It takes time to adjust to only having one parent around, and they will most likely test their boundaries, but once they know and understand what is expected things will go more smoothly. I also like to make goals with the kids, and we plan fun stuff to do that they can look forward to. Last time my husband was gone for a long time, we went to breakfast every Friday morning at McDonald's and it was the highlight of the week.
