What's the best part of raising a family in Canada?
One of the best things I have found is there are endless opportunities. I grew up abroad and while it was a wonderful place to live kids didn't have anywhere near the same amount of opportunities. Boys played soccer, girls played badminton or did gymnastics ... I was terribly uncoordinated and thus didn't play. I am happy to know no matter what my boys are interested in, chances are they will be able to do it right here in our neighborhood.
While we haven't needed to take advantage of it much we are very grateful to be raising a family in a country to prioritizes health care. Having friends in other countries it is scary to hear their stories of how an illness can cause such financial burden on a family when really they need to be focusing on getting better.
What's the biggest misconception people have about raising a family in Canada?
I think people from across "the pond" tend to group Canada and the US as one. There are so many differences between the two, personally I find Canada to be very similar to how I grew up in northern Europe. On the other hand it is a well known fact many from "south of the border" believe there are many igloos and no summers to speak of in Canada ... and of course we are all hockey crazed, eh-sayers.
Of course this could just be my misconceptions of how people perceive Canada :)
What do your kids love most about living in Canada?
Without a doubt their most favorite thing about living in Canada is the many Provincial Parks. These boys love the outdoors and we have enjoyed many hours swimming in the lakes, roasting marshmallows and playing boardgames while tucked away in Ontario's beautiful landscape. The kids are still little but we look forward to hiking the trails and visiting other provinces as well.
