How do you encourage your children to help keep the house organized?
Everything in our home is organized, and I mean everything... So if there is something out of place, you will see it. Every night before bed, I encourage my children to clean up after themselves and to put things back where they belong. Consistency is the key to teaching kids organization. It has worked well for us.
What advice do you have for moms trying to manage their home more effectively?
The number one thing that has helped me manage my home more effectively is time management. Get a planner or create a home management binder (like the one I share on my blog), and begin keeping track of your time. Once you get into the habit of managing your time & schedule, everything else will begin to fall into place. If you need more detailed instructions on how to manage your home, you can participate in my blog series called "Home Organization 101". Its a 14 week series devoted to getting your home organized. Once you complete the series, you will be more equipped and ready to run your home effectively. Set yourself up for success and you will succeed!
What's the biggest challenge when keeping a home organized?
Kids, kids, kids! Keeping them on track and constantly giving them reminders to stay organized is an enormous challenge. I have to remind myself that they are learning from me. If they see me organizing my things, they are more apt to do it as well. My children are very organized (for the most part)... because they see it all around them. We are role models for our children, whether positive or negative. They pick up on what we do. So we need to make sure to do it well!
