Q. How do you celebrate New Year's Eve with young children?

A. We live in California, so we celebrate New Year's Eve east coast time (at 9:00pm). This way we still get the anticipation of a countdown and our daughter gets to stay up a little extra late, but no one (including my husband) has a meltdown at 11:45pm. :)

We usually celebrate with close family friends. Last year we ordered in food, had a whole dessert table set up, and we all played Dance Central on Kinect for the Xbox. Watching the dads take a turn dancing was an absolute blast!

Now that we have a child, New Year's Eve is all about family fun!

Q. Can you suggest a fun birthday party game or creative activity for 6-8 year-olds?

A. I love art parties where kids get to express their inner Picassos. Giving each kid a blank canvas and some paints is always fun, plus I love hanging up a big piece of butcher block paper and having the guests create one masterpiece together. This of course usually works best outside. :)

About Jillian Tohber Leslie & Her Blog

  • What inspired you to start blogging?

I started blogging as soon as we launched Catch My Party in 2009. But it wasn't until I began seeing the amazing parties people were adding to our site that I figured out what I wanted my blog to be -- a place where I could show off beautiful parties and feature the talented people behind them.

  • What are three distinctive features of your blog?

    1. Since I see hundreds of party photos a day, I fee like I'm in a unique position to write about new party trends, popular party themes and interesting people in the party world. 2. I love giving away free party printables for holidays, birthday, and other special occasions because I think printables add so much to a party. 3. I also feature lots of DIY tutorials created by our users. It's usually a craft, decoration or food someone has made for their party that they want to share with our community.

  • What is your favorite part of planning parties?

My favorite part of party planning is brainstorming and collecting ideas. I'm a researcher by nature, so my blog completely fits with who I am.
