Of all the DIY projects you've done, which was your favorite?
What are you going to ask next, who's my favorite child? (I'll tell you later...)
I'm going to hedge and give a couple... My first major upholstery project was fixing up a pair of Craigslist chairs and I went bold: glossy red paint with turquoise chevron fabric. I'm also crazy about our foyer table which was rescued from a boring existence with a little elbow grease and some milk paint. Oh, and I blatantly ripped off a sunburst mirror from Pinterest and LOVE the way it turned out. But there honestly aren't many DIY projects that I don't adore... even if they're a complete flop, just trying to redo something and give it a new life is half the fun!

What's your advice for moms who want to decorate their home on a budget?
Just do it! (Can I say that without getting permission from Nike first?!) I discovered Craigslist with a vengeance when we moved out of the city and I actually had space to fill. Start small. What's the worst that can happen with a $20 bookcase? I love love love flea markets (and Goodwill) and the found/ one-of-a-kind nature of them... but I also have plenty of love for chain stores like Ikea and Homegoods. A coat of spray paint can update ANYthing so don't let an ugly color or a scratched up surface deter you. I think the key is sticking with things that make you happy and trial-and-error. I am always drawn to sleek and clutter-free interiors when I'm flipping through a magazine, but that's just not me when decorating my own home! Stick with what you love and the bigger picture will eventually come into focus for you.
Where do you find inspiration for keeping your home stylish?
The first assumption here is that my home is, in fact, stylish! I read lots of other blogs, I subscribe to a handful of design magazines like HGTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and House Beautiful, and HGTV is on in the background during most nap times. I'm a visual person so when I see a gorgeous room, I usually take something away from the design whether it's a patterned curtain panel, an amazing table setting, or a funky seating arrangement. And then I just take the plunge and go for it. Stuff is moved around and banned to the garage all the time. Nothing is set in stone around here and I'm always experimenting.
