In what ways is Northern California unique from other places you've lived or traveled?

Northern California is unique in that we have a little bit of everything; beach and ocean, mountains and snow, rivers and lakes, vineyards and farms, big cities and small. We get to experience all four seasons but in the mildest of ways. For the most part, getting from one beautiful place to another only takes a couple of hours in the car. I feel lucky to have spent my whole life in such a diverse and beautiful place.

What outdoor activity do you enjoy doing most with your kids?

Wow, I might have too many to name! Of course bikes are big in our house. We often all get on our bikes after dinner and ride around the neighborhood. I also run with The Munchkin, pushing him in the Bob. If you're a runner you must have a Bob! We spend a lot of time in the backyard playing in the sandbox or throwing the ball for our dog, Otis. We love soccer and basketball too, or sometimes just a good old game of catch. On the hottest summer days we round everyone up and take Otis to the river so we can all swim and play fetch. Skateboarding is also extremely popular in our house, but this is the only activity that I don't participate in!

What's a great Northern California destination for a family vacation?

South Lake Tahoe is great in winter and summer. As a kid my parents took us up skiing every winter. In the summer it is warm and beautiful with lots to do from just enjoying the lake to boating or hiking.

If you are looking for an ocean vacation Bodega Bay is a beautiful spot. There are many rental homes available for families of all sizes. The beach is wide and beautiful and there is a lot of hiking here too. Plus you are close enough to San Francisco to make a day trip....or mom and dad can make a quick jaunt to Napa Valley!
