What advice would you give to moms who are struggling with PPD?
Depression lies. It will tell you that you are failing. It will tell you that you are not good enough. It may even tell you that things would be better off without it. It is LYING. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Talk about these feelings. Let others know that you are struggling and let them help. Please know that you are not alone and this is not your fault. PPD is an illness and it is something that can and will get better, if you treat it.
When you're struggling with a physical or mental illness, how do you keep up with all the demands of motherhood?
I guess the question is, did I keep up with all of the demands. I know for a fact that I could not handle the household responsibilities and so much of that fell to my amazing husband. I could only focus on the immediate demands of the children and respond to the best of my ability anything more and I would become overwhelmed and angry that I could not do it all.
What's a mood booster that helps you get through a bad day?
Exercise has been a lifesaver for me. It is not only time I take for myself but it allows me to focus my energy, both the positive and the negative, into something that is beneficial for me.
I took up kickboxing when I was deep in the darkness and I truly belief that it was started my recovery.
