What is the biggest waste of money every family could avoid?

Throwing out food! There is always a creative way to use up produce that is sagging, leftovers that you are sick of, and more! For example, if your produce is starting to look sad, don't throw it out! Blend it in a smoothie (even the veggies!), chop it and freeze it to use later, put it in a soup or casserole, or cook and puree it then freeze it for baby food or to sneak veggies into pasta or other dishes. What's the most common financial mistake families make?

I think there are many common mistakes. One of which not setting a clear budget for your family. You need to be aware of what you should be spending on everything from health bills to eating out to utilities and everything in between. Here's how to set an easy budget: http://www.funcheaporfree.com/2012/01/how-to-set-budget-and-tips-for.html Another huge mistake is paying full-price for groceries. You do NOT HAVE TO COUPON to save money! Simply look in your ads for the best deals for the week, and shop at the store with the best deals. OR...do what I do and take the best deals and price-match them at Walmart. To illustrate an example, I picked up $80 worth of groceries the other day for $40, no coupons needed: http://www.funcheaporfree.com/search/label/Price-Matching. Groceries tend to make up the bulk of a family's budget, so there is no reason why you shouldn't save tons of money...the easy way :)

What item should moms splurge on?

I have an entire site on being frugal and saving money. HOWEVER...one of the tips I give my readers over and over is that investing in a product that will last for years to come will end up saving you more money over time, rather than buying a cheaper product and having to replace it multiple times. This isn't the case for everything. But for many things, investing once in a solid product is worth it. A few examples of products that I've invested in: -Dyson Vaccum (I have a dog that sheds and went through one vacuum within 6 months before buying this one.) -Stroller [Phil & Ted's or BOB Revolution] (I walk a lot and am very hard on strollers) -Blendtek Blender (I never used my blender before buying this one because it never worked right...which was a waste of space and money.) -Nice laundry detergent to make your clothes last longer [Tide, Clorox2]. (I buy cheap clothes and just make them last longer with nice detergent.) -Nifty mom/baby items like a self-warming bottle that I found. Most things you don't need to pay a lot for, but some things are definitely worth the splurge!
