Our favorite family outing is a day at the dog park. Anywhere I can carry our 7 month old little lady in a carrier, get some exercise for us and our two pups, some fresh air, and it doesn't cost us more then a little gas we are good to go. We are very lucky to have a very nice enclosed dog park very close to where we live so we can go anytime we like.
Food! You must have kid and adult friendly food. Kids aren't going to wat plain ole regular party food like finger sandwiches. They want something fun and creative. If you are grilling out hotdogs they make really cute hotdog cutters that turn the dogs into ocopus or wrap the dogs in cheese and crescent roll for an easy on the go party treat. You also need fun activities for the kids that don't necessarly need adult supervision. Instead of a pool party mayeb a sprinkler or blowup water slide party. Hang a large inexpensive white sheet on the fence and let the kids paint.
I started a blog when we were trying to get pregnant. That one is secret because it is so personal, but the day I found out we were expecting I started my current blog where I keep track of her monthly developments. This has helped me keep track of what went on at that time and I was able to copy and paste what I wrote from my blog into the online baby book (snap fish) I have been working on.
