Homeschool Madness

http://www.homeschoolmadness.com

To the world, it's madness. To us, it's a way of life!

What do you think are the greatest advantages of homeschooling?

There are many advantages such as a tailored education and setting your own pace. One of my favorite benefits is that I get to sleep in and we set our schedule as fits our crazy, busy days! We don't school in a typical 9am to 3pm schedule. It happens all throughout the day, broken up by the needs of the toddler and the rest of our family. When my youngest was born and I was up at 4am for a feeding, it was a really great feeling to sleep in the next morning and still get our work done. At our pace!

What advice would you give to a mom who is considering homeschooling her child?

What's one homeschooling challenge you've faced, and what solutions did you find?

What trend (toy, game, clothing style, etc.) are kids your child's age hooked on right now? (Please include your child's age and a link if you can.)

My oldest is into Mario games. He and his dad love to play the old school games together and I must admit it's like playing the game for the first time to watch my son! My middle son is into anything cars, trucks, or machines. He is fascinated with how things work and will sit in the playroom for hours just rolling cars back and forth and watching the wheels move. Just look and see my middle child playing at the children's museum with...you guessed it...construction machines!

What's on your bucket list of things to do with your kids this summer?

Retrocutie Mama

We are going to do an "unplugged summer" where we turn off all electronic devices and actually DO something this summer. I plan on being outside with them a lot! I would like for them to read every book on our bookshelf and play our huge stack of board games. I've also pinned several ideas on Pinterest, many of them just pure dumb fun that don't involve the TV. I'm really excited about this summer. Now, where to find the energy to begin?

What's a great theme you've done for your child's birthday? Please share a link with a photo.

Retrocutie Mama

For my oldest, we've done a Sonic The Hedgehog theme and we had his party at a gymnastics place where they did an obstacle course and of course his cake was Sonic themed. Here's a picture of his cake... http://www.homeschoolmadness.com/2011/04/19/week-with-mario-10/ We also did a Mad Scientist theme one year. His cake was a beaker with smoke pouring out the top (cotton candy) and the goodie bags had a recipe for Oobleck, some pop rocks, science protective glasses, and a magnifying glass.

What's a great finger food that your kids love? Please include a link.

Retrocutie Mama

I think they loved the Halloween themed finger foods the best. I made mummy dogs, and a monster salad along with ghost mashed potatoes. (The potatoes weren't finger foods, but my littlest insists on eating them one finger-ful at a time!) All week before Halloween we had several fun themed finger foods and they are still asking for them!
