This blog is a little bit of everything but focuses mostly on parenting and organization with an insight of the crazy balancing act it takes to be a teacher mom.

Amanda is a winner of Top 25 Teacher Moms - 2012

How long have you been a teacher?

This is my eleventh year teaching.

What are three of your favorite books for children? (Please share what age they are best for.)

We are loving Pete the Cat right now for my 4 year old, good for ages 2-8, great beginning reader book. I love Chicka Chicka Boom, great for ages 2-8. I also love all the books from If you Give a Mouse a cookie series for ages 2-8.

What can parents do to help when their child doesn't like school?

I have gone through this with my child for the first time this year in fourth grade (because school was challenging for the first time). I think most kids hit this at some time or other. It was very hard. The mom in me wanted to call the teacher and tell her everything that she was hating but the teacher in me told the mom in me to wait it out. Instead of calling her teacher to tell her to ease up on her I put up a untied front with the teacher. We told my daughter that she was smart enough to handle the challenges she was facing and that we expected her to do as told. She cried about school for four weeks and now all is well. It was harder on me than anyone else in my family or at her school, including my daughter. Us moms over analyze things. I say this too shall pass unless the parent feeds the child's fears. There are times that parents act and say that school is a bad place to be and the child believes it.
