What's one tip you'd give to moms struggling to make time for physical activity?
Being a busy mom, it's sometimes hard to fit in a workout in an already jam packed day. Sometimes the workout is the first thing that gets left behind. Unfortunately, your workout is one of the things that should be highest on your list. Working out helps you be the best you can be. Nothing is better than a healthy, happy mom. If you don't take care of your health, you won't be there to play and be active for your kids. Isn't that what we want for our children? To be healthy and active adults. We need to be their example. So, go out and get your sweat on and let the dishes sit in the sink for another hour. Don't worry, they will be there when you get back:)
What's your best advice for moms trying to get healthy?
Making the choice to get healthy after being inactive for a while can be a scary task. My thought is, just do it. Don't start tomorrow, start now. Make the decision to change now and for the rest of your life. Now, this doesn't mean you should bite the bullet and change everything all at once. This will lead to a lot of unneeded frustration. Start slow, a walk here and there and add in some veggies to a meal. Then slowly, bump it up. Add in a run or some weights. Get rid of the junk in your diet. This is a change you want to make for the rest of your life, so go slow and give yourself a break if you mess up. Tomorrow is a new day!
What motivates you to stay active while raising a family?
So many things motivate me to stay active. Where do I start? The main reason, is that I want to stay healthy for the rest of my life. I want to do anything and everything I can to maintain my health and be there for my family for as long as possible. I have seen way to often the effects of leading a sedentary lifestyle and I do not want that for myself or my family. Working out also keeps me sane:) In order to be the best mother and wife I can be, I have to exercise that negative energy out of my body. I can leave it on the streets or at the gym instead of in my home. There are other perks as well, such as maintaining a healthy weight and looking good. I want to be a good example of health for my children. Being able to run a marathon makes cleaning up throw up on the floor, or tackling a mountain of laundry, no big deal. I know working out sometimes seems like just one more thing on the "to-do" list, but it is one of the most important things you can do to help yourself be the best!
