Q. What's a great cleaning product you've discovered?

A. The greatest cleaning products are never anything that you can simply purchase in a store... they're what you can CREATE with distilled white vinegar, baking soda and water! You can also add lemongrass oil (which happens to be an anti-bacterial) and tea tree oil (with properties that are both anti-viral and anti-fungal) and create a home environment that is fantastically clean, "green", and chemical-free! You can conquer stainless steel, chrome, countertops, sinks, toilets, tubs, showers, mirrors, windows, floors, doors, ovens, microwaves… the list goes on and on! Google "chemical free cleaning" or check out www.MomGoesGreen.com and I'd love to share more tips! Green clean, friends! -- Doreen/Mom Goes Green

About Doreen & Her Blog

  • What inspired you to start blogging?

I felt like I had a mountain of great information stored up in my own head, but if I didn't share that information, it went no further than my own home. My husband suggested blogging. He said "You can do this and I'll help you get started". He did exactly that and, nearly three years ago, Mom Goes Green was born! My husband and my kids continue to motivate and inspire me, and they love that their mom is "Mom Goes Green" and helping other moms protect their families and the environment.

  • What are 3 things you can teach other moms to make their lives more eco-friendly?

    1. "Going green" isn't just about installing solar panels on our rooftops; it's about all of the little things that, in sum, amount to a HUGE difference. Baby steps are great, and each green step is a step in the right direction. You just need to get started. 2. Stand back and rethink your actions in your everyday life. Implement the three r's: reuse, reduce and recycle. Consume less, purchase wisely and make conscious choices instead of simply resorting to what you've always done. It's not always easy, but it's worth it! 3. For each and every choice you make, there IS a greener option. From cosmetics to cleaning your home, to the foods you purchase and the resources you consume. The way you manage your daily, "typical" tasks can create a smaller "footprint" and result in a healthier, safer life for you and your family, and protect the environment at the same time.

  • Where is your favorite place to shop for eco-friendly products?

It would be impossible for me to choose just one favorite place to shop. Over time, I have learned where to find everything I need, and I especially support buying local. But sometimes, intensive shopping isn't even required. With cleaning products, for example... two of the best products for cleaning your entire home are distilled white vinegar and baking soda! To me it's more about taking action to make smart choices, and essentially consuming less. But, when you do shop, simply be wise about what you are buying.
