Tales and escapades of my amazing twins who seem happy enough to let me come along for the ride. I'm a single mom (by choice) raising twin boys in the city. They are the joy of my life and the source of most of my grey hair.

What's the best part of raising a family in Canada?

What's the biggest misconception people have about raising a family in Canada?

What do your kids love most about living in Canada?

What special skills do single moms have that new moms would benefit from knowing?

Chris

I know its not so much a skill, but its incredibly important that you are and remain in good health. When you are sick, you have to suck it up. There is no one else to take care of the kids. They don't understand that you cant carry them, of play with them or maybe even leave the bathroom. Try to have backup for any and every situation but remember, no matter what, you are the one they want. Ask for help, don't wait for someone to offer it. I'm a single mom (by choice) to twin boys. I've learn to ask more now. I didn't turn down offers to help, but its only recently that I started to outright ask. People will say no if they can't but Im amazed at how many do help. Most other advice applies to any parent, single or not, about patience, consistency etc.

What are your three favorite picture books for children? (please specify the age range)

Chris

0-3 Llama, Llama Red Pijama (or the other Llama, Llama books) They have fun art, and great rhymes. They cover off everyday situations for young kids. Even as babies they loved the singsong nature of the words Anything Eric Carle - but get the board book versions so they will last. We have most of the [animal] what do you see/hear series and as many others as I can find. They enrich vocabulary, have wonderful illustrations and involve the child Benny's Chocolate Bunny - I had to include this one. Its a simple Easter book but boys can't get enough of it and we've had it for more than a year.

What's a great toy for outdoor play that costs less than $15? Please share a photo or link if you have one.

Chris

Dirt, puddles and mud. They are totally free. Kids love to jump in puddles, plan an hour of puddle jumping, just go find them. Go to the playground in the rain. Use caution on slippery equipment but have fun. Free, totally free.
