What's a great destination for a family vacation in Canada?

Canada holds a huge variety of destinations for family vacations, but for us we love the Muskoka region in Ontario. It holds so much beauty and nature that it is perfect for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of life.

Muskoka is beautiful, elegant and the perfect spot for any activity you could think of.

In what ways is your home town unique from other places you've lived or traveled?

Our small town is a place I not only grew up in, but am also raising my kids now. Even though it is small, the community puts together many activities throughout the year for the families that live here. We've lived in cities, the sticks and in our little village. We've left several times, but always end up coming back because it is a blissful little town.

We've travelled all throughout North America, and always long to come back home. Our town, is our home forever.

What outdoor activity do you enjoy doing most with your kids?

The outdoors is our playground. Summer time is our favourite time of year around here. Lots of swimming, biking and more swimming. Come the winter months it is not uncommon to find us outdoors building gigantic snow forts and having snowball fights, but we do escape south every year for Christmas and sun.

How do you prepare your child for kindergarten?

Christine from MommyMatter

We taught the kids the basics. Kindergarten it isn't mandatory to come in knowing anything and the teachers do not expect it. All they ask is that your children know how to dress themselves and use the bathroom with zero assistance!

At what age did you (or would you) give your child a cell phone? (Please include any contracts or conditions you gave your child with this use)

Christine from MommyMatter

My children will not be allowed a cell phone until they are of age to have a job and pay for the device themselves. It is a big responsibility for a teen to have and they should also understand the financial side of them if they have one.

What's your best tip for teaching a gradeschooler about money?

Christine from MommyMatter

Our children are provided with money for completing tasks around the house. We have an app on our iPad that we use also to help the kids learn about money. They love it and gets them thinking about the importance of money.

Do you try to give back when you declutter? Please share your family traditions for benefitting others.

Christine from MommyMatter

One of my favourite things to do is give away the things I no longer need. I don't care how much I spent on the item, if I don't need it anymore there is someone in this world who does. We constantly clean out the closets and the cupboards and donate things we no longer need. A good deed a day, goes a long way.
