My children follow the Reading Workshop method of teaching and we think it's wonderful. The children choose "just right books" that they can successfully read themselves. By far my favorite late Spring early Summer dessert is with Rhubarb. I grow it in my garden and it comes up yearly so I have plenty for myself and others to enjoy! Here is my newest recipe for a Rhubard - Berry Sauce 4 cups diced Rhubarb 1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries 1 cup organic raw sugar juice of 1 lemon 1/2 teaspoon of lemon verbena In a saucepan combine all the ingredients and bring to a boil. Once you let it boil for 30 seconds reduce the heat to medium low and let cook until Rhubarb is soft about 20-30 minutes. Take off the heat and let cook for about 10 minutes. With a immersion blender, blend the mixture until smooth. Serve on ice cream, pound cake with fresh berries or even flavor morning oatmeal. I have 2 boys ages 5 and 7 years old born on the same day.....so we only have to do one birthday party. (YAY) We feel that kids parties get so big and commercial and we are a very low key family and tend to keep it simple. Since my boys share a birthday we talk about what we want to do for their birthday, what theme etc... they also get to pick out their own cakes which is so much fun! A few years ago my children (and still are) were very into art so we chose to have a Messy Art Party. We had stations set up with painting, play dough, art crafts, cupcake decorating and as a favor they made their own tie dye shirt.
