What's one tip you'd give to moms struggling to make time for physical activity?
It is easy to make excuses about fitting a workout into your schedule when you don't have a goal for yourself. When I am having a difficult time staying motivated I choose a race or choose a mileage goal for running for my week. Once you have a goal established it becomes a lot easier to get into a routine. Once you get started you will start to feel more energized and will reap the positive physical and emotional rewards of being active.
What's your best advice for moms trying to get healthy?
My best advice for moms trying to get healthy is to set some goals for yourself both for exercise and for nutrition. I have chosen spending more time cooking meals from scratch as a nutritional goal for my family because when you make your own food you become more conscious of what you are eating and also what you are feeding your family. If you are new to exercise choose something that you are excited about whether it be running or yoga, zumba or weight training. You will have more success achieving your goals if you start out doing something that gets you energized and excited!
What motivates you to stay active while raising a family?
It is important to find a sense of balance in your life. I have two children ages 4 and 2. I also work part-time for our family business, an organic egg farm. I am motivated to stay active because it helps me with stress relief and I also enjoy being a role model for my children. When I am active I have a higher energy level during the day and feel more focused during the day.
