What's your favorite family tradition?
Tradition is not something that my family particularly values. I prioritized it for my entire existence- until I had kids, when I realized that I was choosing to do things because they were "tradition" rather than because we enjoyed them. Then fluidity and flexibility became more important to me.
Now, we are committed to changing what does not work and doing things that make us happy. I would say that our favorite family tradition is not having the pressure of following tradition.
What's the most challenging thing about being both a blogger and a mom?
Trying to keep the perspective of other moms in mind when writing. So often I re-read a piece that I have written and realize that I said something different than what I meant, or had not taken into account others' life circumstances.
Balancing this without watering down the material is challenging. The blessing though, is the open communication that happens between bloggers and readers. This allows me to understand people and parenthood in a deeper and real way.
The connection that comes from this is inspiring, humbling, and beautiful. People dismiss online communities, which is unfortunate. For many of us it is what allows us to find our voice, confidence, and motherhood stride.
What's the most rewarding thing about being a mom?
I never know how to answer this question. I do not find anything about being a mom particularly rewarding. Rather, I love the deep connection that I have with my children. The more I get to know them, and the more experiences we share, the bigger my life feels.
Being a mom has given me a depth and range of emotion that I could not have known otherwise. With this comes a greater ability to love people whether they are in my family or not.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I BAWLED MY EYES OUT upon finding out that Bob Barker was retiring from The Price is Right. I'm talking- tissues surrounding me on the couch, heaving, belly aching sobs. The proper thing to insert here is that when my husband walked in he rushed to me and embraced me to console me. Instead, he asked "did Marlena leave Salem again?"
