How do you decorate a shared room for opposite sex siblings?

Start by using gender neutral color combinations such as orange and white w/ blues, or red and tans, combinations of darker/lighter greens and white. Using the color combinations, the children can then interject their personalities with: bedding, bulletin boards w/pictures and memorabilia, lamps, banners, toys, hobby items, stuffed animals etc. Color is the key - it will make the room feel cohesive!

What's your top inexpensive way to make your home festive for the holidays?

I decorate a little different every year - but one thing remains the same...I love using natural elements and more of a rustic style decor, which keeps everything fairly inexpensive. One of my favorite inexpensive "go to" ideas - is to force paperwhites. I bought about 25 bulbs and gathered up canning jars, striped bowls, and glass vases. For the bulbs in the kitchen, I planted all of them in different brightly colored giant italian tomato cans. Last year I also made a bunch of pinwheel ornaments out of old book pages and glued vintage buttons in the middle. Then I hung them from the tree with twine. Of course no Christmas at our house would be complete without heading outside and gathering pinecones and fresh greens and branches. I love to fill vases and jars with all of our finds.

What is a fun and creative way to preserve baby memories?

Journaling is nothing new - but beside pictures this is my favorite way to preserve baby memories. Every year I would get a new journal, and I would write in it every day. Some of the entries just say something mundane like which park we went to that day or where we had lunch...but if you keep at it (and I did for 7 years) you will have quite a collection of sweet and hilarious stories for your kids as they grow older. I can't tell you how much my girls love reading the journals!
