Peanut's is a winner of Top 25 Single Moms - 2012
Between raising your children, working, and managing your home, how do you carve out time for yourself?
Mommy time is always very important even if it's hard to come by. I try to make an effort to get personal things done, whether it's grocery shopping or getting a manicure, while Peanut is with his dad. I also try to get some Mommy time in after Peanut goes to bed. There are always a million things to do around the house but sometimes, I think it's more important for me to recharge my own batteries by relaxing.
What's your favorite thing to do with your children on the weekends or other free time?
Peanut plays soccer so that currently takes up a good portion of our free time. We also love to go to the movies, museums, restaurants, or even walk around the neighborhood. Sometimes, we just have a lazy day at home and play together. I don't think the activity really matters; what matters is the amount of time spent together.
What responsibilities or chores do your children have to help you around the house? (Please share the age of your children if you feel comfortable doing so.)
Peanut will be turning 6 this summer and has been able to help around the house for some time now. His main responsibilities are keeping his room neat, cleaning his toys up and helping clear the table after dinner. Peanut also loves to help with dusting and vacuuming...I'll take whatever help he offers!

What special skills do single moms have that new moms would benefit from knowing?

One thing that all moms can benefit from is learning to pick your battles.
As a single mom, you don't have anyone to tag-team with...it's just you. You can't allow yourself to get stressed because your little one won't put his toys away. My time with my Peanut is limited and if one out ten times, he doesn't want to clean up...I don't make a big deal out of it. I've realized that the bigger deal I make, the more he refuses. If I ignore him, he eventually cleans up. I don't want my precious time with Peanut to be filled with battles. I want our time together to be filled with laughter and love.
