What's a great destination for a family vacation in Canada?
Halcyon Hot Springs near Revelstoke, BC is a family favourite especially during the cold winter months. After hours spent relaxing in the luxury hot pools my kids literally passed out for like 14 hours... it was heaven.
Silver Star Mountain Resort is another getaway favourite. Only 30 minutes away from our home in Vernon, BC, but it feels like a whole different world. I love that the ski passes now include access to ALL the resort features including: Tube Town, skating on the 'pond', nordic skiing, etc. I love that most of the accommodations have hot tubs to watch the nightly fireworks.
In what ways is your home town unique from other places you've lived or traveled?
In a nutshell:
- amazing waterslides
- there's an old skool drive-in within driving distance
- ski resort less than 30 minutes away
- Ogopogo
- an obscene amount of lakes
- a ridiculous amount of golf courses
- an abundance of orchards & vineyards
- horseback riding
- you can float down the river on an inner tube
- Polson Park where you can feed the ducks & pigeons
What outdoor activity do you enjoy doing most with your kids?
Camping.
But also... skiing. This is the first winter we've bought skis and a season's pass for our 3.5 year old Saige. I've always dreamed about being one of those families that ski in the winter and boat in the summer... I'll let you know how it pans out. I guess we should buy a boat first ;)

What's your favorite activity to do in the winter with your family?
This will be our first winter with Saige where she can actually give skiing, skating, snowshoeing, etc. a try so I'll keep you posted.
Sleigh rides, bonfires and hot chocolate have proven fun in the past and who can resist a "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" movie night complete with popcorn and mounds of blankets?

What's a great indoor activity for kids that doesn't make a huge mess?
fort building using couch cushions & throw blankets is big in our house as is finding and ripping out letters from magazines to make a giant "S" collage for Saige.

What's your go-to snack for your kids?
I've started making a simple trail mix that the whole family seems to enjoy... every once in awhile I'll whip up a batch, seal it in a large tupperware container and grab scoops when needed.
STEP 1: hit up Costco for their HUGE bags of dried cherries & natural almonds
STEP 2: add a generous handful of cheerios & raisins
*optional*
STEP 3: if the kids are being extra good you can throw in a package of m&m's - those don't last long in my house thanks to me and my chocolate addiction.

What's an affordable and fun family activity?
Saige is BIG into baking so some afternoons I google kid-friendly muffin or loaf or granola bar recipes and we let our inner Betty Crockers shine. It's super fun and tasty, but clean up can be a bit of a drag.
