The biggest thing for me is to prepare in advance. Keeping your house tidy as a general rule helps a lot with this. My motto is simply to do what I can. Period. I prepare, get things ready as much as I can in advance and when my guests arrive, that's what they get. If it means that everything isn't perfectly decorated (or even dusted), then I get over it. I have found that guests and their overall experience is determined more by my attitude than the perfection of my house. If I just let go of any imperfections and enjoy my time with them, they will remember that in a more positive way than if they arrive to find me bustling about being stressed over something not being done.
So, basically I do what I can to prepare, but then I force myself to forget anything that isn't perfect and just enjoy my guests.
