Between raising your children, working, and managing your home, how do you carve out time for yourself?

Making time for myself is always a challenge. I'm fortunate enough to have a very involved ex-husband who has 50% custody of our daughters, which gives me greater opportunity to do things "just for me"; sadly I still struggle and usually use my "personal time" for playing catch up!

I do my best to schedule in things just for me. Often my to-do list includes things like yoga, going for a run, or hanging out with girlfriends. Scheduling it in helps to remind me to make myself a priority.

What's your favorite thing to do with your children on the weekends or other free time?

My daughters and I have some special weekend rituals when we're together. Friday nights, without question, is our "nacho and movie night". We snuggle on the couch together with a big 'ole plate of nachos and enjoy being together.

Sunday nights are always our "fancy dinner night". We set the table with a linen tablecloth and napkins, use the good dishes, light a candle, and play Beethoven in the background. It doesn't even matter what we're eating that night, it's the fact that we take the time to make it special no matter what.

What responsibilities or chores do your children have to help you around the house? (Please share the age of your children if you feel comfortable doing so.)

My daughters are 7 and 9 and it's often a challenge getting them to help with chores around the house. During the week we have a "10 minute tidy" -- I set the timer for 10 minutes and the three of us clean up during that time. It's surprising how much can get accomplished in such a short period of time. They're also responsible for cleaning their room (most of the time, anyhow). It's always interesting to see what new and inventive ways they come up with to try and get out of doing it!
