In what way is the South unique from other places you've lived or traveled?

The South is unique in the sense that everyone from communities all around will do everything they can to help you in any way that they can. The biggest thing I missed was the ability to talk to total strangers without being made to feel like "invading on someone's space" when I did it.

What outdoor activity do you enjoy doing most with your kids?

My favorite activity is actually being able to go to SC parks and take nature walks all year long. I also enjoy water rafting during the summer down the rivers.

What's a great destination for a family vacation in the South?

Any of the local beaches are nice. The one vacation I remember the most though is going on a cattle drive with my Mom.

When are children old enough to start picking up after themselves and what are some tips for teaching them?

As soon as they are able to make a mess, they are able to learn to clean up.

What if your child is the bully?

I honestly have a boy who was bullied in every school we've tried to put him in, and that's why he's now being homeschooled and loves it. However, there are times when I notice that he's overly aggressive with his brother, and we discipline him accordingly. (Times out, take away his privilidges, and also tell/show him how he SHOULD be treating his brother.) We also insist that he apogolize with sincerity for his behavior. He has his spurts where it's worse than others, but overall he does pretty good with his brother and the kids we have that come over. However, kids have a way of being mean without realizing that's what they are doing at times. (In some homes the parents are installing it in their kids without meaning to do it.)

Is it better for a husband and wife who are fighting to stay together or be apart?

I think that all couples have issues, and that marriage takes work. It takes work to keep it going. Marriage doesn't mean what it use to, but it should. The main things couples need to do is learn HOW to communicate with EACH OTHER and COMPROMISE.

What is the best place to raise children: city, suburbs, or a rural town?

I would say a rural or suburb town is best because then a child is able to learn more about nature and also use their imagination a lot more.

How do you keep your kids involved with chores?

I keep my kids involved with helping with doing chores by making sure that we have more free time to do things "we want to do" when they help out with doing every day chores. I wrote about this a while back. I also included some links that may be helpful for some parents.

What's your children's favorite lullaby?

Honestly, my child's favorite lullaby has always been the songs that I created for each one of them. I just throw together some words and sing them. :)

At what age can kids start trick-or-treating? And by what age should they stop?

I have them usually start when they are a year and a half old and stop when they are 9-10 (ten is really pushing it in my book.) Zeva is to young to really eat candy this year or appreciate what is going on. However, she will get in a costume this year. I do feel that after 10 years old they can help the little ones have fun safely.

What do I when my 14 month old son can climb out of his crib?

I will lower the crib as much as possible. We are dealing with the debate about whether or not Zeva needs her crib lowered or not. We are close to having to do it because she is leaning over half of her crib. When they show they are talented enough to get out of the crib (or even close to it) we put them in a toddler bed, and make sure their room is safe for them to roam at night should they happen to get up without us knowing it. We also make sure there is a gate blocking them from leaving that room. I also have the terrible habit (according to my husband--since it leads to Zeva waking up sometimes) of checking on her througout the night several times. Usually though once they reach the toddler bed they tend to sleep through the night with ease and life becomes peachy clean at night from that point on (until you start the whole potty training process.)

Aside from a birth certificate, what legal documents should a parent file after having a child?

Their shot records. You need your child(ren) shot records for just about everything you go to enroll them in now a days.
