What's the one food you could never live without?
Oh, man. That's a tough one. I'm going to have to say cheese. Unless it's blue. Blech.
My second choice would be potatoes. I'm a sucker for spuds!

My daughter absolutely loves apples and peanut butter! I have an apple slicer that cuts out the core and divides the apple into wedges with one quick maneuver. Easy for me and perfect for her.
I say start young. Feed your children little portions of whatever you're eating and be enthusiastic about how good it tastes. You have to remember that your kids look to you to gauge your reactions to things first. Don't assume your kids aren't going to like things!
There will be that phase where your kids won't want to eat anything except goldfish and peanut butter and jelly, but don't give up. Continue to serve a wide variety of foods before automatically giving them their favorites.
A trick we used during the tough times was to bring a little bowl of blueberries to the table and we did a bite for bite exchange. For every bite of dinner my daughter ate, she'd get a blueberry in return. It worked great!
