What inspired you to start blogging?

When I first started my blog just two years ago I wasn’t quite sure what direction I wanted to take it. There are so many aspects of my life that make me who I am and I didn’t know how to incorporate all of these elements. I suppose it’s only natural that my blog would become a reflection of my most important position in life….motherhood. There are many things in life that inspire me, but my children and husband are always the root of my inspiration. Yes, my blog focuses on my children and their unique kid style, but I hope my readers will find more when they visit. I hope that this journal of motherhood will inspire other moms out there.

How do you keep up with the latest kids' fashions and being a mom?

Now that I am a mom, it’s actually easy to keep up with the latest kid’s fashion. Anything that has to do with kid’s style instantly grabs my attention. In the little spare time that I have you can usually find me searching the web or browsing through catalogs and magazines. I love to tear out pictures and recreate them “my” way. There are so many amazing blogs and sites out there that I feel like the resources are endless. And of course, I always go straight to my favorite kid’s lines to cruise their online stores.

What are three things parents should think about when styling their kids?

1. Comfort. I would NEVER make my kids wear something that wasn’t comfortable. There have been many cases of buying the cutest shoes ever, but all I got was complaints. I know what it’s like to wear something that doesn’t feel good and I would never put my kids through that.
2. Be creative. When piecing together an outfit remember that it doesn’t always have to match. It’s ok to mix stripes with florals or pair stripes on stripes. And definitely add color here and there. I love to add color with shoes!
3. Include your kids. It’s not fair or fun to the kids if you show them what they have to wear all the time. Now that my boys are a little older they have a voice and they certainly know how to use it. They both love Star Wars and could wear that apparel all day long. We compromise by pairing a vintage inspired Star Wars tee with worn jeans, a belt and converse. Toss on a hat and we’re ready to go.

How do you make shopping for your family's clothes affordable?

Elizabeth Jacob

Our number one stop is always the Thirft Store. I can't get over how many great finds I get for Jess, my one year old. My older boys are a little harder to thrift for because most of the cloths are pretty worn. For the boys I always hit up good sales and almost never pay full price. I love unique Children's Boutique clothing, but it can be very pricey! Whenever we travel I pick something up on sale. Even if it's too big I know I can hold onto it until it fits.

Where do you most enjoy shopping online for your family, and why?

Elizabeth Jacob

My number one online stop is Etsy! I love to support handmade and small business owners, especially since my husand and I are both small business owners. They have a great selection of cloths and accessories and fantastic vintage finds. I also love to hit up a good sale at my favorite shops and shop online at stores that I can't visit too often. My favorites include Zara, Hanna Andersson and Tea. I also shop at Lands End for winter clothing (boots, coats and ski pants) and school uniforms.

What are your tips for planning an affordable birthday party?

Elizabeth Jacob

My family and I try to live an eco friendly lifestyle so it's not often that I buy paper products and tablecloths. I have a collection of thrifted table cloths that I use for various occasions and I tend to use white for my boys' parties. I try and make as much by hand as I can. Definitely get on the computer and do some research!! There are some great tips our there for crafting your own decorations on a low budget. I try to bake the cake or cupcakes myself so it cuts back on cost and I don't go overboard when sending out my invites. Even if you have a budget you can still be creative, get crafty and have fun! You can check out my link below and see some of the decorations I made for my daughters 1st Birthday!

What item should moms splurge on?

Elizabeth Jacob

I have a few answers I could rattle off, but I think moms should splurge on a babysitter! It is so important to get a little time away, whether it's for yourself or for a date night. When I get even an hour away from home I feel refreshed and ready to go. I think getting some time out of the house makes me a better mom. I have more patience and am ready to focus on what's important - my kids!

What tips can you offer for closet organization?

Elizabeth Jacob

I use baskets and bins to contain those little shoes, hats and mittens. For the kid's closets I installed a second bar below the top one so I can hang more items. For my closet I put a wood rack from Ikea to hold jeans and folded sweaters. And of course, I constantly go through the closets to get rid of as much as I can.
