HI, I am glad that you joined the group. I am brand new at this, but wanted a way to network with other moms who have boys in scouts- My son Devon (now 17) has been in scouts for 6 1/2 years... my husband Pual, is the assistant scout master. Scouting is wonderful for them, but sometimes it can be difficult for us as women to be involved

My husband is Cub Master and was a leader tiger threw webalo untill my son had arrow of light this past april. Im a girl scout leader for past 6 years. But after my husband does his last year as cub master he is looking forward to being a parent not leader. But the boy socut leader is already asking him to be new Scout master but right now we are so lost in boy scouts we have not been told to what to work on first...

I agree with Kris! You're a pro at letting your Webelos be independent and Scout-like....but not all moms (or dads!) are ready. Show 'em the way!! (Unless you LOVE being a den leader, of course.)

Hi all. Scouts is great for the family. I have three boys, Eagle Scout, Star scout, and Scout. 18, 16, 11. Scouts has given my boys a chance to do things we can't afford to do as a family. The older boys have been on high adventures, and my youngest couldn't wait to get out of cub scouts, to do the things the older boys did. Please if you want to be involved with your troop join up. The moms are just as important as the dads. I have been a leader at every level of cub scouts, and now am on the committee, as secretary and just took over advancements. We have several single moms moving up with webelos in feburary and what better way to help the new moms to be involved than with experienced moms to show the way. Just because its called boy scouts doesn't mean Mom cant be in scouts. I plan on staying in until I'm done, not till the boys are done.

Quoting Julie:

Hi. I'm new to cub scouts. My son is a Tiger cub. I've been a scout leader for girl scouts for year and have been giving his den leader lots of ideas of activities to take the boys to. I was wondering if how everyone else handles the rowdiness of the boys during pack meetings (not the ceremonies since they can sit still for that).

Julie

Pack meetings can be very chaotic. I would suggest that there be more activities scheduled for the kids (songs, skits, audience participation, etc...) and less adult talking. Reduce announcements to a handout or an email blast. Have a gathering activity while parents come in that distract the kids and let the parents take care of financial business (popcorn turn in, FOS contribution, dues, campouts, etc). One adult can lead the gathering activity of either coloring or small games that are engaging and short, such as "Duck, Duck, Goose"

Good Luck!

Hello all, as a single mom of 2 boys who grew up in the program I can say without hesitation that this single organzation has helped secure us as a family. Thankfully, I have been able to serve in any capacity I have wanted from Tiger Leader to Assistant Scoutmaster. I've attended so many campouts that I can now live a weekend out of a duffle bag. Simplisity is key for me. Both my boys achieved the rank of Eagle just before turning 18 and are happy and productive members of society.

Currently, I serve as the Vice Chair of Program for our Scouting District in Houston and have been on the training team for years. If there is ever a quesiton, please feel free to ask me, perhaps I can help.

Love to all Moms of Scouts!

Hi Ladies. I actually have one son in Pack and one in Troop. We are all very involved. I am the pack trainer for the pack, and somehow I was just recruited to secretary for the troop. My husband is an assistant scoutmaster in troop. We are extremely busy, but I love it. The troop left tonight to go camping in Alpine NJ. I am a bit worried because it is suppose to snow tomorrow, but they are in a cabin, so I am sure they will be fine.

Hi! I am actually a cub scout mom for the next 3 months, lol. My DS will more up to a troop in february, but I will stay down in the pack for another year as the den leader for the Webelos. I don't think I want to be a leader with the boy scouts... IMO it's time for the dads to step in while us moms get to stay home for the evening. But I know i will probably end up doing something for the troop, lol! they've already got my co-leader and I going to merit badge councelor classes.
