Why did you decide to bottlefeed AND breastfeed?

I just want to know why you all decided to bottlefeed and breastfeed opposed to one or the other.

I am due with my second child on Dec. 1 and I am choosing to do both options because I know breastfeeding is the healthiest option but I also have always wanted to try it with my first child but I was very young and listened to everyone else except myself. I also chose to bottlefeed along with it because I do not want the child to get too attached to my breast to where he/she cannot be with others. I'm not sure if both will work since I havent reached that obstacle yet but thats what I plan to do. I havent decided if I will pump or just try breast milk at certain times of the day and formula the other times but I know that at this moment I plan to do both.

My daughter gets a bottle with breast milk while I am at work. She doesn't have any trouble going from bottle to breast. My plan is to nurse till she is 2yrs.

I just had my second son on September 19th. I was originally going to formula feed like my first son but was pressured into breastfeeding. I have been breastfeeding him and giving him formula. I breastfeed him about 3 to 4 times a day. I only plan on breastfeeding for the first few months. He actually does better with the formula. I think even if you just breastfeed a little it is good. Giving the baby some extra nutrients!!

I have to bottle feed because my son doesn't suck he bites. So, I pump. That way he gets the healthiest thing for him. but i don't have to worry about pain or any of that. Good luck with your decision

I started giving one bottle of formula a day due to the sheer PAIN of breastfeeding I experienced for the first 5 months at least. I kid you not i have been called selfish for doing this but boy it was a lifesaver. Ive continued on with it even after I healed as daddy loves to feed the bottle, and its just easy to leave her with daddy while I nip out to do errands on the weekends when i need to. =)

I started out exclusively breastfeeding, but soon found out that I only produced on one side...I know it's an odity..I link it to an injury from when I was younger. Anyway, I was exclusive for abour 4 weeks, then he started wanting to nurse every half hour. I went back to work and stopped "producing" for the pump. I haven't given up though. He is now six months old, drank up my supply, so he gets formula during the day while I am at work and exclusively nurses during the night. He however is a a "boobie" man cause when he sees me after work, he smiles and starts to root.

I give my almost 8 month old daughter breastmilk in a bottle at daycare since I returned to work. I have gone through about 8 1/2 cans of formula since she was born. I had to start supplementing with formula because she started to lose weight around 6 weeks. Unfortunately she has a milk and soy protein allergy so her formula is Neocate which is really expensive! ($35-$57/can). My first daughter (now 4 1/2)only breastfed for about 3 months, and my milk supply was low so I supplemented with formula with her until she refused the breast. I started a bottle of breastmilk about 3-4 weeks with my baby, and my older daughter was about two days old when she was hospitalized for jaundice and wouldn't nurse- also didn't help my supply. My older girl was vicious on the breast- punching, hitting, biting, pulling, kicking trying to get more milk! I think that the second one is easier to breastfeed and get your milk supply! Good luck to those pregnant with their second!

Unfoftunately mine wasn't too much of a choice... We were readmitted to hospital with a one week old dehyrated baby because I wasn't producing enough milk (had lost 1L of blood at birth that may've attributed to that). So while it wasn't planned I'm happy with how things are working now. Each feed I give both breasts before a decent-sized bottle. I love that I have the convenience of offering the breast when bubs is hungry out shopping... rather than having to race to a parents room with a crying hungry baby, hehe.

I have chosen to both breast and bottle feed my son. Right from birth, he was an eater. No matter how much I pump, I cannot keep up with the little guy. This is my schedule: I breastfeed him on both sides (2oz each side), then feed him the milk I pumped an hour after the last feeding (2oz) in a bottle and then if he is still fussing, I feed him another 2-3oz of formula. He eats every hour and a half and has just started on solids twice a day. Like I said, he loves to eat. LOL

Yes it is very different for me this time. I did not have morning sickness(neither did I with the first one) but I have alot of aches and pains this time and I feel nauseated sometimes. My first pregnancy I had no pains at all until the end but it was smooth sailing. This time I feel fatter and more uncomfortable. This time feels new all over to me as well. In a sense it is b/c I am dealing with different things than the first time. Yeah men are no help. At least not as much as you'd LIKE them to be.

Men...Ha...5 mins ago my husband just laughed at me when I asked if I looked fat or pregnant in my bathing suit!!!!

Men can never understand what our body is going through. And even though I've done this before not too long ago, it's all new again. This pregnancy has been very different from the last. My first pregnancy was very easy for me, although my son had issues with fluid in the one kidney he had so had to be closely monitored. This time, I was very sick for the first 3-4 months but the baby is doing great!

Is it very different for you this time?

Yeah it is hard to go it alone. I know I have my fiance there but its always good to have a friend thats gone thru pregnancy and have kids already. Sometimes men are just too oblivious to what you're going thru and cause you more emotions and stress than you need lol. We find out what it is on the 24th. Cant wait! Congrats on the baby boy!!!

Oh thats great. Well I hope that my child is able to adapt well as I've read that it can be somewhat hard. I hope we can keep in contact since we are both due with our second child in Dec. It'd be nice to have a friend since I dont have many pregnant friends or friends with children.

Hello ShaTerra! I am also due with my second in December. I did both with my first child. He had only breast milk for the first 6 months or so. I wanted to introduce him to the bottle early because I knew I would need my husband's help with late night feedings as I was going back to work. I bring my son to work with me, but needed my sleep! Dad did the 10-11ish feeding while I slept, then I did the middle of the night feeding. It worked great! I was very lucky. My milk came in before I even left the hospital and my son only fed every 2-3 hours. I didn't really do the on demand. I knew I wanted him on a schedule. He adpapted very well.

Thanks for starting the group!
