my daughter is 3 and i still feed her a few times a day. i belive in self weaning. i think if shes ready she will stop and i will feed untill she says she does not want it anymore. with her being older its easy to talk about not biting and for her to ask for it when she is hungry. id love to know how other moms feel about this

I nursed my oldest daughter until she was 13 months old. I started weaning her at 12 months. I am planning on doing the same for my youngest who is only 6 months. I believe that it is whatever you are comfortable with and whatever feels best for your child. After all, you are the mommy :)

The longest ive breastfed any of my kids for is 2 years and that was longer than i expected to. I think as long as they havent started school yet its fine.

I weaned my twins at 15 months. My son will be 2.5 at the end of September and still nurses 3-6 (or more) times a day. I am casually trying to get him to cut down, but am not going to actively wean him. He is supposed to go w/ his 'Dad' for a week at the end of December, so if I can't fight that then I might not have a choice on weaning him. Otherwise... I'm not sure. If he doesn't quit on his own I will probably wean him before he turns 4.... Ask me again in a year. ;)

Hi June, I have no idea how long I will breastfeed for, like you I think I will carry on until self weaning. Breastfeeding can be tricky when it comes to me working late shifts and she can't settle down to sleep without her bedtime feed, but that's just one night a week and overall I am happy to carry on as long as it feels right. I never imagined when I started out that I would still be doing it when she got older, I imagined her being bigger and couldn't imagine how it would feel, but it still feels perfectly natural.
I remember my first daughter who was on bottles suddenly started refusing them at the age of around 2 and a half, so this is the age I am expecting my youngest daughter to self wean from the breast. But if it's longer then fine, but I'm not sure I would tell many people about it, some of my family don't even realise I ma still feeding her now she's turned one and I can't be bothered explaining it to them!
