My daughter Therese will be 11 months old on the 27th of October. I had originally planned to nurse her until she turned 12 months. I nursed my first baby until she was 13. (It took some time stopping the before bed nursing) I had thought that once she started on solids she would naturally wean herself like my first baby, but this is not the case. She is very picky about what she eats. She likes only the jarred baby pastas from Earths Best. She won't eat any pasta I make for her myself. She doesn't like ANY fruit. Her general reaction is to raspberry spit out her food. She loves cheerios, pickles, vegetable soup, mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, french bread, yogurt (she will eat fruit if I sneak it in there), refried beans, and squash. I cannot get her to eat any fruit by itself, oatmeal, applesauce... So I guess my questions are: 1) Do you have any tips on slowly weaning her and 2) Do you have any tips on getting her to eat different foods? Thanks everyone :)

Hi Tannisha,
Sounds to me like she is eating a pretty good variety of food and that you are doing all you can to try to introduce new foods, I'd guess that if you keep it up she will get there in the end.
Shame it's expensive, but I have always found eating out is the best way to get them to try something new! And also just putting a small sample of a new food on the side of a plate full of a favourite meal, stick with it and if they see everyone else eating it curiousity gets them in the end!

As for weaning off the breast, I wish I had some tips for you there, I am still nursing my 2 year old, she just hasn't shown many signs of being ready so we are keeping with it. We did manage to cut night feeds right down by just reducing them to shorter and shorter feeds, then saying no and offering water, maybe this kind of thing may work for you?
Or you may find that baby number 2 surprises you, and you end up feeding much longer than you did with the first- I expected I wouldn't feed past nine months, but here I am!

Have you tried the Pouches of baby food that they can suck from, I know HappyBaby, Ellas Kitchen, and Gerber all make them. They have some varieties that mix vegetables and fruits, they are really good. My daughter Loves them, I've introduced lots of the more uncommon fruits and vegetables with these products. If she likes veg. soup maybe she would enjoy a chicken pot pie, if you make it homemade it's pretty easy and you can put any kind of veggie in there you choose. My daughter loves fruits so I'm at a loss for this one. Does your daughter like to eat and drink the same things as you? Mine does is why I ask. How about making fruit smoothie drinks for her to drink with breakfast or for snack. Fruit pizza? Maybe mix some raisins in with her cherrios. You could puree some fruits and pour them into popcicle holders and freeze them for a snack. Just some ideas, not great ones. I wish I had some better ideas for you but my kids have always been eaters. If I'm eating it, they want it. My 15 mo old loves iced coffee and tea, we can turn our heads and she is sucking on our straws... so weird. I'm still nursing but she is down to only before bed. I just slowly took a nursing out and substituted milk until we are at just the once. I'm not sure who's holding onto it me or her. I hope something I said is of help. Good Luck!!
