when do i need to start worrying about her not pooping?! some have told me 7 days. she is being breastfed & she is peeing & passing gas & burping & eatting normal. she just hasn't pooped yet.

I've been having the same issue with my 10 week old daughter and I spoke to her doctor and he assures me that it's perfectly normal and that he has known breastfed babies to go up to 10 days without pooping and it doesn't hurt them...they say that breast milk is very "efficiant fuel" and not to worry.

My son would go every 2-3 weeks until he was about 7 months old. The Dr. said it was totally normal and Jack was not in pain. It did make for LARGE diapers when he finally did go.

my son is like that it started when he was about five weeks.
they say a up to a week is normal my son was going 14 days between poos.
if she is distressed or in pain take her straight to the doctors and get them to prescribe some lactolose or you could do 1 once of fresh orange to 8 onces of boiled water.
you could also try natural things like rotating the legs massaging the stomach and hot baths.
unless she is in pain i would leave her she will go when she is ready and when she does have spare clothes it will be a lot.
the doctors just said to me that they dont do anything because when he starts weening his bowels will change again and to be careful with my diet but my son was in pain and getting extremly distressed and was finally given lactolose.
now he is 5 months and eating food whilst still feeding off me and is now going about once maybe twice a week.

My pediatrician said that as long as the baby does not seem uncomfortable, and is happy not to worry about it, before my twins were introduced to solids they would average about 7-9 days...I miss that!!

my son did the same thing and the doctor told me to feed him a little more during the day and he started having normal poops again! As long as the baby is passing gas, eatting normal and not throwing up, everythings fine.

Unless her belly gets hard or she seems uncomfortable, you never have to worry :) As long as a month is possible!
Yeah, just remember it can happen anywhere, anytime and it might be huge!

My daughter used to go every 7 to 10 days. The diapers just aren't big enough! LOL No worries, totally normal.

My son used to go every 10 days like clockwork--we used to call him the volcano cause he'd be sitting there and up it would come out the diaper........we learned to mark off 10 days on the calender so we could watch for the signs and be prepared for the eruption ;)

Breast milk is so efficient that it takes a few days for enough "left overs" to build up. My daughter won't poop for 4-7 days and it really doesn't bother her. Sometimes she gets a little uncomfortable around day 6 or 7 so I use the ole rectal thermometer trick, seems to work every time. Just be sure to hold it in for up to 5 min. if after 5 nothing has happened your baby does not need to go. If you get worried you can also use glycerin suppositories broken into halves or thirds. And a bottle with some karo syrup, and some pear or apple juice seems to work in about 30 min. I hope this helps!!

My friends baby hasn't pooped yet and it's been 12 days. Her doctor sais that it's normal for breastfed babies and as long as there's weight gain that it's fine.

From the Breastfeeding Book by Martha Sears, R.N. & William Sears, M.D. pg.49 says that "After the first month or two, as the gut matures, the frequency of bowel movements decreases. At this stage, your baby may normally have only one bowel movement a day; some breastfed babies have one bowel movement every three to four days but are still getting enough milk. Some babies save up their bowel movements and have what is affectionately dubbed a "mud slide" once a week. As long as baby has an adequate weight gain and is not uncomfortable, this is normal for that baby."

Mine goes every 5-7 days, depending on the baby. It's normal for breastfeeding babies to not go as often.
