I am 7 1/2 months pregnant, and want to exclusively breastfeed my daugther when she is born. I will be a single parent, so I will have to go back to work fulltime 4-6weeks after she is born. I PLAN on breastfeeding for atleast 9-12 months. Any advice or opinions on what breast pumps work the best would be very appreciated. I only need to breastfeed enough for while I am at work, but will obviously need to pump while at work. I want a pump that will help feed up my supply and pump enough rather quickly while I am at work? I've read about Medala Pump In Style, and Ameda Purely Yours. Has anyone had any experiences good and bad with these? What is the best pump to get?

I use the Medela Pump In Style. It works great for me. I can usually finish in about 15 minutes. It isn't too loud if you might be somewhere that you don't have as much privacy. Mine also has the option to have a battery pack so if I can't get to an outlet I can still pump. Mine was second hand from a co-worker, but I would definitely have purchased one myself at full price, it is totally worth every penny. I plan to BF until 1 year minimum, maybe longer so I am really happy with how well my pump has worked for me.

I use Avent double electric pump and love it. It is super easy to use and great on the go. Be sure to start pumping fairly soon to build up a supply of milk before going back to work. I was off for 9 full weeks and started pumping when she was 3 weeks old. I would pump both breasts about 1.5 to 2 hours after her feeding; she would usually only feed off of one breast and sometimes I would pump the other right after her feeding. I built up a great supply and could get 5-7 ounces in one pump of one breast (especially first thing in the morning).

I personally would stay away from Playtex. I got the Playtex one because it was more affordable, but the amount of $$$ I am spending for replacement parts is making it not worth it. Also, Playtex doesn't recommend theirs for working moms, but for occassional use. It worked really well for the first month, then it has gradually gotten worse. I've heard nothing but great things about Medela.

I also have a Medela Pump In Style and love it! I used my first one for a year and never had problems with it. I got a new (second hand) one with my second baby, but only because the first one had an accident (the tub I stored it in filled with water). The pump still worked, but the casing got moldy...so I decided to just get a new one as I plan to breastfeed for the next year :)

I have the Medela double electric pump and a love it. My son is 9 weeks and when I pump I can take 6 oz from the right one and 3-4 from the left.

First, good for you! A single, working mom determined to breastfeed! You can do it! I am proud of you (I know we don't know eachother, but I am.) I have worked for WIC (Women, Infants and Children) as a breastfeeding Peer Councelor. I have also work in lactation at a local hospital. At WIC we used both Medela Pump and Style and Ameda Purely Yours. They are both good options. Personally, I prefer Medela. Their customer service is also really great, which is a plus. You probably won't want to use the Swing because it is a single pump. Stick with the Double Electric. Good luck!

It took me 3 different pumps to finally find one that worked for me. The Playtex brand works great. It was only 50.00 and is pretty quiet to run also.

Medela is what has been recommended to me, if there's a health nurse in your area they can usually give recommendations, also nurses at the hospital, sometimes hospitals will loan them out to people as well, instead of putting a lot of money out to purchase one, that way if you don't like it you can try something else.
