Allergic to rice cereal?

I started my little guy on rice cereal when he was about 4 months old and he had it maybe 4 or 5 times over a period of a couple weeks and was totally fine. We've been really busy with moving and such so we took a long break from it and now I just tried it again a little over a week ago. He is 5 1/2 months old now. The night I gave it to him he spent the entire evening vomiting up the contents of his stomach and looked terribly pale. He also sounded really mucusy, so I assumed he had a little cold and the mucus was irritating his stomach. After he puked everything up, he was totally fine. Ate again and slept like a baby and got all his color back in no time. I was busy again last week so I didn't get a chance to give him cereal again until a couple days ago, and the same thing happened! After he puked everything up (over a couple hours time) he was totally fine and happy! Could he be allergic to the rice cereal? I didn't give anything else but breast milk and I don't remember eating anything unusual, certainly not at both times. He has eaten other solids and been totally fine. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any thoughts on this?

My daughter did the same thing... she just didn't handle the rice at all. I switched her to oatmeal and all was fine however.... I would let your childs doctor know though... maybe it is an allergy, or possibly somethign with that box of cereal too...

Yeah, I wouldn't try the rice cereal again. His body is obviously rejecting it at this point. You can try again in a couple of months if you want. If he does ok with other solids, I'd just stick to those for now. Good luck!

If it were me I would just leave the rice cereal alone and try maybe oat and see if the same thing happens. Plus moving and all the stress that stressed you out can be felt by baby. He may just need to nurse for awhile until the stress level is down and he can relax again with you.
