My allergies are really bothering me so I would like to take something. I am still breastfeeding my 13 month old 2-3 times a day. Does anyone know of allergy medicine to take while breastfeeding?

According to LLL you can take pretty much any allergy medicine while breast feeding (Claritin, Reactine, Benadryl) but as someone mentioned they can reduce your milk supply.

The steroid nasal spray is a prescription.

is the nasal spray a prescription or can I get it over the counter?

I took the normal claritin and it dried me up for days. My pediatrician recommended a steroid nasal spray as allergy medicine while breastfeeding since it's localized and doesn't interact with your entire system. It's worked well for me.

I was told by my doctor to take regular Claratin not Claratin D, that sudafed, and benadryl are all ok. And if you have any other questions you can ask the pharmasist and they can look it up to make sure it is a safe allergy medicine to take while breast feeding.

Claritin (generic brand loradatine) is an OK allergy medicine to take when breast feeding.

Sudafed PE is a safe allergy medicine to take while nursing and it won't make you feel weird. :o)

My doc said regular sudafed was ok. Just call and ask your doc. See what they say.
