My 4 month old's reflux has peaked these last two weeks. She has been throwing up frequently and we have her on Prilosec and Zantac. We hate having her on meds, but her reflux gets so bad that she refuses to eat. Now we need to up her dosage of Prilosec b/c she is still throwing up-not as bad as before though. Any moms been through this? What helped your babies? It makes me so sad that she is so miserable!

Both my children have had severe GERD and also needed medication. Have you tried altering your diet? I found just by eliminating milk and soy products and their bi products it really made a difference. Also the reflux medications will neutralize the acid in the stomach so it doesn't "burn" when it comes up, but they do not stop the action of the reflux itself. I also found breastfeeding was best for a refluxer, as it is more easily digestible and doesn't linger in the tummy. So keep up the good work! Hope your little one is feeling better soon.

Try a product called colic calm. I used it, it is an all natural remedy for gas, reflux, and colic. I thought it worked great for what we used it for and you do not need a prescription.

I am going through the same thing as you, although my baby has not been on any meds because her Dr would not perscribe her any. It started right from day 1, she is EBF and was throwing up everything that she had eaten and then some. She would through up so frequently that she would end up just throwing up stomach acid. She was lucky if she gained 1/2-1oz a week for the first 4 months of her life. I was so mad and really resented her Dr for not doing something to help her, but he just kept saying she would out grow it. At 4 months of age I went to a clinic and demanded a referral to a pediatritian (her Dr was just a GP) about a month later we got in with the pediatritian and he was appauled by her Dr. He said to me that without a doubt she has reflux and wished that he was her Dr 5 months ago! That made me feel good. So now she is just over 6 months and eating solids and nursing still and her vomiting has pretty much stopped now!! She is such a happy baby now and doesnt have the attacks she used to get. The things that really seemed to help her was nursing more frequently for shorter times, elevating her crib mattress, keeping her not upright but at a slight angle after feeds. I found that putting her in a bouncy seat or car seat was the worst thing because it put pressure on her tummy and she would always vomit sitting in these. When in her car seat though I found putting a rolled recieving blanket under her knees would sometimes help to relieve the pressure and sometimes she wouldnt vomit as much. Just hang in there I know it seems like it is never going to end at this point but it does get better!! Take care!!
